The First Prince Song You Ever Heard! What is the first Prince Song you Ever Heard and you feeling about it at the time?
I remember when I was a little girl I heard 1999 and Little Red Corvette and really dug it! Soon After, I turned on the TV saw the video to When doves Cry and feel in LOVE with the man, the image and the music. I still feel that way today!

Does anybody remember when Willis on "Diffrent Strokes" was dancing in his room to "I Wanna Be Your Lover?" I don't thnk I dreamed this I'm pretty sure it happened. Anyone remember? Other than that "Controversy" was the first song I really heard and I thought was cool, but I was too young to figure out who did it and to buy the record. The first record I bought was 1999. ______________________________________________

I Was 5 years old and walked in on my cousin listening to DIRTY MIND...I believe "Uptown" was playin...I danced my lil ass in the room then "Head" started! I kept dancing and singing along and my cousin (she was 22 at the time) was CRACKING UP!!!! She wasnt cracking up too much after I borrowed it and played it at home...at first listen...My parents were like "WHAT THE F@CK IS THIS!!!" and spanked me and my cousin got in trouble!
AH...I MISS CHILDHOOD!!!! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Soft And Wet--- First heard it on a AM R*B/soul radio station (WIGO AM) on a cold breezy morning on the way to Dodson Drive Elementary school(was 9 years old at the time)in 1978. It sounded so different than what was turning up on R&B radio at the time. Not that was a bad thing because R&B/funk/jazz in the 70's was stellar...from 1970 to 1979. But the fact was it was certainly a unique song.

Batdance. What a single. Never heard anything like it before on radio or anywhere else for that matter! Mind you, I was only 10 years old.

Controversy was the first I consciously heard as a Prince song (For any ozzies out there, I remember Molly presenting the album on Countdown and saying something characteristically unexpected like: "This is an artist who's been creating a lot of controversy lately". I don't remember if he suggested that you "Do yourself a favour" but he's always been a big fan so he probably did).
Later, when listening to "I wanna b your lover" and "Why u wanna treat me so bad", I realized that I must've heard them on the radio at the time. (I was around 8 at the time). "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

Don't know if it was the first song I ever heard, but it was his performance of Billy Jack Bitch, I Hate You, and 319 at an awards show around 94-95 (AMAs or Grammys, I can't remember) that got me interested in Prince. I immediately went out and bought TGE.

Yeah, I love that line!!!!! I also like when he says, Ooh yeah, Ooh yeah, I wanna bust that body...that stuff is hot! (along with the moves when he says it in the video). I watch the video from time to time to hear the song and watch the batdances, it's one of the best! [This message was edited Tue Mar 12 11:58:46 PST 2002 by purpleleaf7]

The first song I heard was "For You". I was 9 or 10 at the time and have been listening to his words ever since. Even used to get the hair brush out and sing along...my three year old daughter has since taken over my hairbursh and thinks that since she is going to grow up and be a princess that Prince is to be her prince...will argue with anyone who tries to tell her otherwise!

The first song I consciously remember listening to was 1999.
I didn't have any money to by the album, but I had recorded it off of the radio on someone's countdown. I think I had that and Barry White's Change. I remember my brother accidentally erased my only copy of this and I was so pissed! When I think about it, I remember hearing Dirty Mind on the radio, but this was before 1999, and Controversy. I remember though that the song sounded so different than anything playing at that time. When I finally got Dirty Mind I said so that was Prince who sang that! Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic! Hey, we got the power, ohh we got the soul. Hey, we got to sho' nuff gett off, make the devil go go!

Believe it or not, I remember seeing the promo clip for "I Wanna Be Your Lover" on the Midnight Special, wayyyy back when I was a wee tot. I remember liking the song and thinking the guy singing it was interesting, but I didn't put two and two together and realize it was Prince till I got a copy of the "Prince" album in the summer of '84. Funny how those things happen...

The first Prince song I heard was Controversy. I was about 9 or 10 yrs old. I was arguinging with my uncle who was playing it. I Kept telling him the song was satanic because I thought I was hearing "Do not belive in god, dont not belive in me" I hated It. Then I heard 1999 and that was it. I was hooked. Back in the day we couldnt afford to go out and buy the album,so I sat by the radio for hours, hoping to tape it off of the radio. Hmmmmm The Power of music back then.Dont think many artist can make kids put that much effort to listen to their music today.
