What do we have to do to get Warner Bros. to release this wonderful movie on DVD ?

If this has already been discussed, I apologize now - but I'd really like to have this movie on DVD!

Here in England bro' PR has been released on DVD 4 quite a while and theres no extras at all.

But I think UTCM is badly underated movie.....tell ya what would be great, if they could whack out with the original negatives and do the DVD in colour!!!

And if SOTT gets released aswell. I may just cream my pants.

UTCM may not look right "colorized." being it's shot in black and white, the lighting technique is different. they realized this in the 80's while the trend of colorizing old flicks was popular. ask a photographer who does color and B&W stills, you'll probably get the same kind of answer.

think Prince rants about covers, go ahead and try to colorize UTCM, you'll get another nasty rant...

I don't think it would have to be colourised. As the other post implied, Under The Cherry Moon was actually shot in colour, meaning, I presume, on colour film stock. It was then released in a black and white version, how they did this I don't know but I know I can turn down the colour on my TV so it goes all black and white! wink

I would love to see it in color (just for fun)! I just sat down and watched it yesterday actually. But the B&W works so well. It's such a theatrical movie !

UTCM was shot in color, because WB didn't like the idea of doing the movie in black and white. They argued with Prince about it, but ultimately he had his way. They just printed the film on b&w when it was released. No idea who would have the original color master, or if it even still exists.

On a seperate note, if you're going to hound WB about releasing UTCM on DVD, then cool. However, you would be wasting your time to do so with SOTT, since Universal was the studio Prince used for that one. So, everybody petition WB for UTCM (as well as Prince and the Revolution Live, Sheila E in Romance 1600 Live, Three Chains O Gold, Diamonds & Pearls Videos, etc), and then petition Universal for SOTT!

Well - I sent an email to Warner Bros with this request.. who knows if they'll ever respond - or even read it for that matter.
They probably cringe now when they even hear Prince... thinking
"what now?!"
haha!
Anyways - I hope the rest of you will do the same - I just went to their website & emailed Customer Service
I will keep you posted IF I ever hear anything.

Doesn't anybody like UTCM in black and white? I think it looks wonderful. Film noir lends a certain elegance that you miss with color.

The old 1-800-NEW-FUNK site had Under the Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge available on DVD. I have a friend who doesn't own a DVD player, but purchased them anyway. Maybe someone should contact NPGMC about releasing this under the Premium Retail section....

I really liked this movie in B&W, but that's a good idea for the special feature section. I got all this stuff on laserdisc, but I am afraid that the player is going to bite the dust one day. Would love to get all my laserdisc stuff on DVD.

Film noir are the dark, rainy, gloomy films during and after the war that used deep focus and germanic expression...Under the Cherry moon was just simply black and white.

I read somewhere that there was a version of UTCM circulating that had certain objects in the black & white film that were colored pink (or cherry)... Is there any truth to this? Maybe that would be a cool alternate version for the DVD...

for the record. UTCM was shot in color, but only for the first few days and with the intention of showing W/B how much better it looked in Black and White. The vast majority of it was shot in Black and White so there can, unfortunately, never be a "color" version of it. The "outtakes" of the movie that are floating around in color are actually the video for MOUNTAINS that happen at the end of the film.

I agree, I'd still like to see a DVD of it come out, but they won't waste their time on a movie that bombed. Better to try to get a deluxe version of PR on DVD. (see my other topic on this).
