Prince's 2 Best Albums of the '90s

My votes go to "Symbol" album and Chaos and Disorder. The Gold Experience was good, but it was obvious that he was trying too hard to create "Purple Rain 2" with this one (right down to the title track, which pales in comparison to PR). Chaos and Disorder was pretty much the opposite - Lots of guitar and a rougher sound, but overall I felt it was a more satisfying record.

What are your picks?

This is hard cause I actually like 90's Prince!

I just found Chaos and Disorder and I love it for that
harder more rock-guitar heavy sound.
But I also really dig Emacipation (disc2 especially).
And though D&P had some low points there are some shining
moments too like Insaitiable, and Cream.
Oh and I cant forget Rave boxed ...I love my Rave

but I think I'll settle with Chaos and Disorder, prince, and Rave
If you will, so will I

prince and The Gold Experience. The Gold Experience is far and away his best album of the 90's and it is the Purple Rain of the 90's. The whole era of that NPG/Wild Sign/Slave was as out there and adventurous and exciting as the Revolution was in the early 80's. Replace 1st Ave with Glam Slam and Prince with prince and there you have it. Yeah, you cannot compare The Gold Experience to Purple Rain, but The Gold Experience is better than any other Prince album in the 90's.

GangstaFam

I'd have to say The Truth and probably Symbol, although Come and Diamonds and Pearls are right up there.

I couldn't get with Chaos and Disorder at all.

If you count Crystal Ball in the mix, I got the most enjoyment out of that.

Come and the Gold Experience, but I also think Chaos and Disorder deserves an honourable mention! wink

The gold experience and prince are the best of the 90s fo sheezy. I just wish neither had the stupid "story progressing" interludes. Kirstie Alley and NPG operator can cram it with walnutz.

Is Black Album considered 90s?

If so, Black Album and prince

If No, prince and Gold

Honorable Mentions:
The Truth
Come

Good, but not the best:
C&D, Emancipation, The Vault, Rave Un2

Just plain lousy:
D&P, Graffiti Bridge

The Gold experience and D&P.

Can't understand why people slate D&P so much. The following tracks would stand up to most of his 90's work and they're all on the same amlbum:

Gett Off
Cream
Money don't matter 2night
Thunder
Diamonds & Pearls also does it for me although i can understand why it's not everyones cup of tea.

Walk don't walk is also one of his most underated songs.

Cool album!

I really really like 3 of those five songs, and I also like Strollin'. Thunder is okay.

Pretty much of the rest of the album is bad, in my opinion. Except, yes I'm crazy, I like the B-Side Call the Law.

"grafitti bridge" and "love symbol"

"gb" is my all time fav Prince album.....mainly because i love the more upbeat Time tracks and Tevin and Mavis! Plus it has the awsome "Tick tick bang" and the gorgeous "still would stand all time"! "love machine" kicks my big ass up to dance to.....a great record to his ur floor with! The title track is apalling though, though I do like "NPG part 2"!

"symbol" album is proberly my 2nd fav Prince album! The first 5 tracks floor me and r proberly the best first consectutive 5 tracks to an album ever! "the flow" and "the continental" r classics 4 me, as is the more serious "7" and the funky and uplifting "sacrifice of victor"! Though "damn u" and "sweet baby" will proberly never grown on me and "I wanna melt with u" is ofeten overlooked by me but now i hear it on its own quite alot.....

infact when i put on these 2 albums, I can never play just one song! I then find at least 2 other songs I did not even plan on playing.....both albums r great!!!

I'd have to say that the easy one for me is o(+>; as for the second best, it's a toss-up between D+P, Gold, and edited Emancipation (if that's allowed).

For me, the most cringe-inducing song between all of D+P and Gold is the song 'Gold'; otherwise I'd go with that as the second best album of the 90's.

I think his two best albums of the 90s were Exodus (ya'll know that was him from start to finish) and The Gold Experience. Crystal Ball was great too!

Well, for me, when D&P came out I listened to it faithfully for about six months like any good Prince fan, but then as the years passed, it just slipped out of my cassette player. I still have it and listen to some of it once in a great while, but I wonder if I ever really connected with the album.

The Gold Experience & Emancipation are the best from the 90s imo.

I hate the symbol album...an overblown, self indulgent mess. I love 7 and God Created Women...but I have never liked the rest of it.

GottaLetitgo

At first I though this was going to be easy...but then I thought about it some more and thought it would be a whole lot easier to pick the two worst albums of the 90's then the best. (Easily, Chaos and Disorder and NPS, which make up two of the three Prince Axis' of Evil for me, The Rainbow Children being the third). In the end, I have to go with Diamonds and Peals and Love Symbol, the former because it was a great (and extremely well-marketed) pop record and the latter because it has some tremendous songs amidst a really bad concept. Come, Emanicpation, and Gold are on the second tier. Rave is the anti-Diamonds and Pearls, a pretty decent pop album sabotauged so badly by terrible marketing that I cannot take it seriously to this day.
All good things they say never last...
