Yeah, you gotta love that you can buy a remastered Nas CD, but there aren't any remastered Prince ones.

Because No Deal (means $$$$ & Masters back 2 the Purple One) between Prince & WB.....and i think that Remastered versions from the Back WB catalogue(1999,Purple Rain.....) Will NOT C THE LIGHT OF DAY before a Very Very Long time...maybe.....NEVER!!!!!

Why I think there is re-issue of the movie, but no remasters:

It's because Prince has got no say whatsoever on what happens to the movie, but he does in respect to what happens to the masters; Issuing digital remasters wasn't covered by the agreements Prince signed with WB and now he is refusing them permission to do so.

Correct me if it is something else, but I can't find any logical reason for WB not to want to release those bloody re-masters.

no no no!

hey now, play nice on my thread.

besides, if there would be any remasters I respectfully suggest they at least remaster his entire body of work from the 80's.

That's not to say I wouldn't want to hear 'For You', 'Prince' or his 90's work remastered...

I assume this is correct.

It's humorous when we see fans *still* (yes, still!) whining about WB being the Big Bad Wolf where Prince is concerned, he's as much to fault as they are where their relationship is concerned - and on the topic of the remasters I can only imagine that WB would be MORE than delighted to release them and make some bucks off the fans who bought them first time around (not to mention the wider audience who would buy Purple Rain and SOTT etc).

It'll happen one day, just a matter of time I guess.

Can't blame Prince for wanting to control his legacy, and he does have one to protect - one of the last wave of artists who do in fact.

Ask Prince.

It was certainly on the cards, and WB wanted to do it...

Couldn't we get an answer some other way?

I really don't see Prince coming out and saying:

"Yeah I refused permission, I don't care what you people want."

I assume this is correct.

I don't know if it is. It's just my assumption as well. I just can't think of any reason why WB wouldn't want to do it, but of plenty why Prince wouldn't.

Unless WB wasn't interested in re-negotiating ownership, I fail to see how he is protecting his legacy by refusing permission.

just play the vinyl of for instance purple rain (us pressing) or sign of the times. you don't even need a hifi turntable to spot the difference between vinyl and cd here. if you don't get your ears checked. his 80's albums need some proper remastering.
except maybe for 'prince'. that album sounds quite ok on cd. but i mastered the vinyls on cd a long time ago and sold my cd collection waiting for the remasters. although now i think i can wait for ages...

Age doesn't matter when it comes to remasters. Just listen to the SOTT CD. the sound is horrific.

Sadly however, the 'creator' of this master piece doesn't seem to mind that much....

Sorry, what does protecting your legacy have to do with not releasing a remastered CD of an original work? I could understand if he would say no to the remasters if they sounded shite - that would be protecting a legacy - but I doubt that this is the case

Vanity, me thinks, and a big ego is what let's Prince stand in the way between his fans and a good remastered CD... Can't be money, cause honey, after this tour he must be stacked...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's the principle, I know, he doesn't own the masters, blah blah blah...

I doubt any of that excised footage now exists apart from the photographic evidence and trailer etc. Reason being that film stock doesnt age well (read up here 4 more on the sheer amount of work that went in2 the whole 'Star Wars' Special Edition releases a few years back 4 a very good example. And this was a negative that was kept as securely as it possibly could be!) not 2 mention the fact that back in 1983/84, who would've thought that any of that stuff would've been needed 20 years down the line 4 something called a 'DVD'.

The fact it hasn't turned up this time, 4 a 20th Anniversary special edition says a lot - so I wouldn't hold your breath.
shrug

Okay, I'll concede to that; the Purple Rain cd doesn't sound that bad. But, Sott? Listen.... it is heartbreaking...

All his 80's albums could use at least some 'cleaning up'.
