Well, if you've ever listened to that song 17 days after you broke up with someone, you'd understand exactly why it can be so damn sad! On a good day though, it is a great groove to move to! I know about the lyrics, and I guess you have to be in that frame of mind for it to be sad to ya, but the music would just override any sad feelings the lyrics might conjure up and make me move. I guess when I first heard this everything was care free in my life, so it would probably take me back to that place.

My top 3 sad songs:
1. Sometimes It Snows In April 2. Another Lonely Christmas 3. Still Would Stand All Time (reminds me of its appearance in Graffiti Bridge) BTW - I can see where satire is being taken into consideration on ALC but it certainly doesn't diminish the sadness of the song. I had a friend whose Dad died at Xmas and this song always reminds me of that sad point in time. IMO Prince was using Xmas as a means of getting across how such a happy occasion can have different meanings when viewed in a different light. Sometimes...always sends a shiver down my spine. Such emotional heart string pulling. Sheer class. Everybody is special. Everybody. Everybody is a hero, a lover, a fool, a villain. Everybody. Everybody has their story to tell.

I feel you, and since you mention it, you know what's weird about that song? At one point for me (when I was devastated and broken-hearted) the lyrics made me incredibly sad and I was crying, but because the groove was so righteous it sort of made me feel energized to "kick him to the curb" and get movin' on. It really has this brewing sort of tension in it that is sad but at the same time motivating. A very cool song I must say! *************************************************

Okay, I know you guys will probably think I'm nuts (LOL!), but do any of you feel kind of emotional when listening to the Karmasutra CD? I don't know why but some of those songs move me to tears, I think the music on that CD is beautiful. Maybe it's not just the music that gets me all emotional, perhaps it is because I think of how Prince wrote those songs for Mayte, and now they're not even together anymore. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
