The Acoustic Set at the Celebration Addressed to anyone who was actually there, was it as AMAZING as it sounds?
Just the crowd songing an entire set with the little guy on an acoustic guitar, makes me have chicken skin thinking about it (while listening).

One of my best nights as a Prince fan...ever! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I remember talking to Sassy about it and I mentioned that it was the first time I had heard Prince say 'Thank You' to his fans. I told him that if I was there, I would have had tears running down my face. He told me that he did.
I am really suprised that that set is not talked more about here too. The acoustic version of 7 makes me cry everytime.

which celebration? | |

I believe it was talked about... when it happened.
Words cannot describe the Celebrations... you just had to be there. I know how hard it was... I had to beg, steal, and borrow to get there, but I'm glad I did. They're the highlights of my career as a Prince fan.

I never went to the celebration. Although, i have heard a recording of Prince's acoustic performance. Sadly i was not impressed with the performance at all. I found prince's guitar playing to be sloppy at times and his loss of timing, lyrics and melodic structure were painfull to hear. Particularly comming from a musician of Prince's calibre.
There were some highlights, his energetic and fun version of 'Peach' and his joyous version of '7'. To me, these few 'gems' demonstrate that Prince IS capable of doing a great acoustic performance but he needs to apply the same demands to it as he does his band. It short, it needs less 'noodling' and some structure. While i am yet to hear any of the acoustic performances from his latest tour, i did see the half hour musicology performance that was aired on mtv/vh1/bet. Here the acoustic songs sounded fresh, fun, and structured. Most of all it, sounded great. Whilst, was not a great performance, It was interesting to hear him finally do an acoustic guitar show at long last. I'm sure to actually have been there would have influenced my opinion of it a great deal. Im probably just jealous! What I found exceptional was the choice in songs played. Don't play me, Tangerine, Girls and Boys and others. I feel that the accoustic set during Musicology, while decent, didn't delve enough into the obscure and pretty much remained the same thoughout the tour. Since it was only him on stage staying int he same place, he could have played whatever he wanted, but chose not to. Christian Zombie Vampires

What else did he play during these acoustic (celebration) sets? I've never seen a listing.

I was at the show and it was pure magic, the vibe in the room was that of ecstacy and shock. A dear friend of mine leans over 3 songs in and whispers "are we still alive?" That pretty much summed up the night for me.

It was the highlight of the Celebration for me. He didn't make the songs easy listening pap, like Clapton and Sting have done. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

That night and the more rock oriented one where he played that slowed down, bluesy version of I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man ( and that cool version of SOmething In The Water with those funky light effects) were my BEST Prince experience ever...don´t know how he´s ever gonna top that.
Incredible shows at the celebration ! I still can´t believe what I witnessed during that week. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Acoustic Set
It was pretty interesting to watch Prince Rogers Nelson perform "acoustically" alone... Most musicians have to have some type of back up to be able to counteract perhaps what they lack in being able to do (not to down any musician, just speaking truth). However, on this night it was a huge "BUST UP THE CHOPS". You could literally tell that Prince was showing generations of generations what "RAW TALENT" is. Personally, for me, it is a life "Mindographic" memory. A true gift...and most of the time the best GIFTS need not be spoken only played with the heart. A BIG THANK U. Sincerely with respect, SingMia PS. "On one hand that singmia I tell ya... why she is a nut, left hand BAD right hand GOOD... she don't even have a fence to ride on... lol"

Thanks to all that posted (the good, the bad and the ugly).
I have to agree that it really shows what talent he has. It also takes balls to do something like that with a fan base of rabid critics. Thanks again for confirming what I thought, it was amazing. His thanking the fans for sticking with him through thick and thin makes me misty everytime. So does the crowd singing the falsetto parts and the little things in every song. It reminds me why I'm such a fan of this artist. It's why we're all here - edit [Edited 11/2/04 9:37am]
