I'm starting to doubt my own opinions.

I've watched UTCM many times. I love it. I find the jokes funny and the acting quite good. However, I have sat friends and family down and unless they are Prince fans they all seem to think it is really really bad.

My question is.

Is it actually any good, or am I a poor blinkered fool for anything Prince puts out? Other than 'I rock therefore I am', which was possibly the worst recording in History.

'UTCM' is not quite the disaster that many critics made it out to be.It's a fun,enjoyable little movie and there are some truly funny scenes in it.I like it.

I like the movie too. Just watched it yesterday and had a good laugh, in a positive way. Not embarressed laugh, like when watching Graffiti Bridge.
Prince is really funny and Jerome is great. The movie looks good also and is really enjoyable to watch overall. Three stars out of five, i'd say.

Ending is really stupid and really ruins the movie. Although it is fun to watch Prince die.

Worst scene is the part where Prince takes Mary Sharon from the airport and they go to some slum area and the poor people watch while Prince and Mary kiss. The whole scene is just awful. Prince acts so poorly and there really no explanation for the characters behaviour. He just sits on the backseat with his sun glasses on and says nothing.
Then, all he says is "i love you" and Mary is not angry anymore. How stupid is that.

One more thing... have you noticed that during Girls and Boys scene, when Prince is dancing on the piano, he first puts on his jacket and few seconds later takes it off. That is actually the exact same scene, but the first one (putting the jacket on) is in reverse. Its easy to notice because the jacket actuelly flies to his hand out of nowhere on the second scene he throws it away.

I just found UTCM this week after looking for six months and I thought it was really a great movie!!! Some people I know don't like the whole blackand white thing, but once you get into it, you don't really notice it anymore. I think this was the best movie as far as Prince's acting goes.

I still have the review of the movie from the Sun-Sentinal here in Florida when it first came out. The cat gave it 3.5 or 4 stars saying how "Prince had done it again". There were not many critics that thought that.

But, if you are a Prince fan, you get all the humor. I guess a lot of other people did not get it.

I will say this, the ending was wayyyyy to cheeeeesy for me. But a fun movie none the less.

Prinssi, I hadn't realised about the jacket, but now you say it, it makes sense.

I love the ending though, really melodramatic. I cried when I first watched it, but then I was only 13.

Watched it yesterday, cabbagehead.

I can't say its great. It has great moments but overall its ok imo. I like the "you did it to Mary's mom" part, the resturaunt scene where they play Girls & Boys, and lines here and there. That part where he stares at the camera trying to hypnotize the hotel girl is painful to watch. Also Mary's party...the acting sucks from everyone involved in those scenes imo. What was with Prince's shirt in those scenes with the front hitting his knees? Its actually distracting to what is going on in the scene (which isn't all that much). I laugh when Prince gets shot.

My absolute favorite part of the movie is the Mountains video at the end.

it has its faults, but it's his best movie in my opinion.

roger ebert respected it when he and siskel reviewed it on their tv show. thumbs down with respect for the stylish effort.

I like it. As a matter of fact it's the only Prince movie I own.
One reviewer correctly added that with the right people and support, Prince has the stuff as a director. When left to his own devided (Grafitti Bridge) disaster insues.

Purple Rain is clearly a superior film though. It packs a punch that this one doesn't.

On the other hand, Graffiti Bridge makes me want to gouge out my eye with a spoon.

Somehow they rewinded it back ... the scene runs backwards. I think the whole boyz & girls sequence was concepted as a music video, so they did this effect (my opinion)...

Its well shot, but the gags are a bit cheap. Its ok. Not great.

The song playing while Prince and Kristen Scott Thomas are dancing on the promenade?

I love the movie! I think it's great for what it is. I don't buy the whole love story bit, but the rest of it is truly entertaining. I saw it at the movies when it came out back in the day, and I was confused as to why he would risk death for some girl he didn't really seem to like all that much. So, I just ignore much of that, and fast forward through the death scene until I get to Mountains.

...Prince fans tend to like it most, I for one LOVE it. We're just so smitten by him, such faithful fans, that's all it is...

If a movie makes me laugh every time, or feel whatever emotion each and every time I watch it, this one makes me laugh all the time, it's a GOOD movie.

I'm glad my MAN put me on to Prince once again and showed me UTCM...

I just recently watched this movie again. I've seen it millions of times but I hadn't watched it in about 10 years. I really really enjoyed it! I think Marie-Claire's costumes were off-the-hook. Kristen is really beautiful. Prince looks hot when he first sees Mary at the party and he keeps posing and staring at her. And I don't care what anyone says but Jerome is PHOINE as hell!!!
