Snap

"Slow Love" like "Hot Fun In The Summertime"?

I love Sly Stone, and that's why I can say there's no comparison. In "Slow Love" where Prince sings the melody line, "Young is the night..." -- there's nothing that even comes close to that rhythm in "Hot Fun In The Summertime" -- also, Prince holds onto the notes "night..." and "slow..." and "love..." etc. What vocal notes in "Hot Fun" are being held so long that the singer's voice dissolves into some creaks? Where's the slow bluesy-jazz feel in "Hot Fun" -- it's a much bouncier tune. Where's the horns that continually climb and fall? Where's the hip-grinding rhythm? Where's the sax that plays off the lead vocals? Where's the drums that slow down, stop, go, pause, then build again with a quick little fill here and there? Neveremind the lyrics -- no comparison there either.

Two totally different songs, I'm tellin' ya.

i just don't like these songs. I would never play them for someone to introduce them to Prince. Ballads I would use are: Purple Rain, Sometimes it snows in April, The Cross, Slow Love, Adore, The Ladder etc..

Well Miss Biologist, the organism is in the sense of "the lady doth protest too strongly" the guy really loves the tune and is trying to hide it. "every body snap yo' fingers right like this, you know what that is???ORGASM!"

I'm not really a ballad/slow jam man. But I like other people's ballads and slow jams more than I like a lot of prince's, particularly those.

1999 (the song)-- I won't listen to it anymore because I'm tuired of it. Plus, anytime a non-fan gets their hands on this at a party they play the hell out of it like it's something new.
Cream- Never liked it.
Pussy Control
Most Beautiful Girl in the World-- When this came out, my best friend thought it was the new NKOTB
"Did u love somebody
But got no love in return?
Did u understand the real meaning of love?
That it just is and never yearns"

"Raspberry Beret"---I was never all that crazy about this song. It's nice, but nothing special, and certainly not a "classic" imo.

"Do Me Baby"---this is considered one of Prince's classic slow jams and the ladies love it,but it has never done anything for me.

"Starfish And Coffee"---the only song on 'SOTT' that I don't really like.

Little Red Corvette. always sounded distorted to me on the album, overplayed on the radio and in concert. Non fans too always annoy me by saying "i like Purple rain, 1999 and Little Red Corvette" Etc some even cite Prince's great guitar work on LRC, not knowing it's Mr Dickinson at work. The idiots! mad

Decent 12inch though. wink

most of his early stuff I don't like as much, ie For You to 1999. I like all of it, but I don't love it the way I love Purple Rain-Sign O the times era, and I would never introduce a person to prince with that stuff. I also think a lot of his best stuff, or my favorite stuff, is scattered throughout the nineties.

What you call sacrilege I call honesty. Everything up to 1999 hasn't aged as well as the Purple Rain-Lovesexy material, which is still very fresh. 1999 and Dirty Mind, two of the Tetrachy of albums almost everyon considers prince's best, sound very dated next to Purple Rain and Sign O' The Times (the other half of the tetrarchy). I like his early stuff, but it sounds so much more "80s" than his best material.

For me it's "Pop Life". I never liked it, and to be honest I could never figure out why "everybody" seems to love it! Different strokes for different folks, I guess, and on this one I'm just too different. razz

Amen to that! When I'm asked to put together compilations for non-Prince fans, I draw heavily from the 90's. To my mind (and ears) his sonic palette was at its peak with the early-mid 90's NPG - and Prince knew how to work it.

the live version of "gotta broken heart again" on the ONA dvd is much better than the studio version. Its really jazzy and mellow wish it was on cd maybe i can put that on my prince wish list.

i can't get into much of the New Power Soul cd. With the exception of "come on", "the one" and "wasted kisses" that cd is garbage.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
