I'll never forgive Prince if he's holding up the Golden Girls DVD release! For those of you who can appreciate the rediculousness that is "The Golden Girls" this thread is for you. Who on earth doesn't appreaciate the obvious reaction shots? The over-the-top put downs? The broadly drawn characteristics and the absurdity of oversexed seniors? Well it's been years since the GG's have been cancelled and fans are waiting for a DVD release. Usually when a DVD release is held up this long it's because of some licensing rights involving a pop star and the use of one of thier songs. It's the reason season 2 of "La Femme Nikita" was pulled (Garbage had a song in season 2 and it's holding up release).
If fans remember Sophia warbled "Purple Rain" during an episode. If THIS is holding up production I'll kick Prince's bony little a$$! It makes one wish producers would stop using pop songs in shows. "thirtysomething" is also held up and if The Fine Young Cannibals are the reason there'll be hell to pay. One hopes Prince could work something out if this is the case but if past history is any indication then....

That scene where she breaks out into Purple Rain is hilarious

I think there's a difference in someone warbleing PR and it actually being played on the show.
I doubt that that's the reason for it's hold up. Most of the times it is either someone who is involved with the show, like the producers or the actors. Other times it is the company that holds the liscence. And perhaps the syndication liscence. I have been waiting for Twin Peaks second season for 2 years now (First season has been out longer for 3-4 years...it was one of the first TV shows put to DVD). The reason it hasn't come out is becaus 3 seperate companies own the rights to different parts of the show and NO ONE is budging. Christian Zombie Vampires

I haven't purchased it yet because a few years ago I purchased the VHS tapes and didn't want to spend another 100.00. I also know that the reason the pilot episode isn't included with the regular package is because he sold the rights to it to Warners so he could finance the making of it and they're being pricks about it. What good is it for anyone for it not to be included with the rest of the series. It annoys me.

One of my favorite sitcoms is "WKRP In Cincinnati". With all the songs played in that show, I guess they'll never get around to putting it out on DVD.
I read on one web site that they have been editing out all the songs from the show and replacing them with generic songs because they feel that the original songs will make the show seem dated. The songs, as well as Venus Flyetrap, are some of my favorite moments from the show. I'm glad I recorded as many of the episodes as I could when they had the marathon on "Nick At Nite". Andy is a four letter word.
