USA today

There's a Prince pic on the USA Today homepage then this article:

Prince video depicts terror, sparks outcry
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The musician Prince is drawing fire for a new video that portrays an Arab-American girl envisioning herself blowing up an airport.

Prince is drawing fire for a new video that portrays an Arab-American girl envisioning herself blowing up an airport.

The video for the song "Cinnamon Girl" shows the girl, played by 14-year-old Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes of the movie "Whale Rider," facing harassment from schoolmates and witnessing racism in the wake of an attack that mirrors 9/11.

Steve Silberfarb, president of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota, said he applauds the anti-harassment message, but found a dream sequence in which the girl detonates a bomb at an airport disturbing.

"Even allowing for the right of an artist to express himself, I think it's misguided and offensive," Silberfarb said. "Her frustration is understandable. The violence is not."

Prince turned down an interview request through his Los Angeles-based publicist, Ronnie Lippin. She said his goal was to provoke a discussion about the issues raised in the video. "If people are reacting with concern, I think the conversation is starting," she said.

The recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee rose to fame in the 1980s with a series of sexually provocative songs and videos and his starring role in the autobiographical "Purple Rain."

His career has seen a revival this year with the release of the album "Musicology" and a successful nationwide tour.

"What it is is a washed-up pop star's crass exploitation of post-9/11 race-card-playing by Arab-American apologists for terror," conservative columnist Michelle Malkin wrote in her Weblog.

MTV spokesman Graham James said the video is currently playing on MTVU, which is available only on college campuses. He said it would enter rotation on the flagship channel next week.

Just sent him my e-mail!

Everyone needs to respond to this guy and straighten him out on the facts.
I asked him how Prince's Musicology tour could draw in so much $$$ if he was a "wased up" pop star.
I told him to research that!

I sent my e-mail! If this was a matter of respecting someone's opinion, and their right to free speech I would probably keep my mouth shut. But sigh lying is different, and a fact is a fact smile -

I just sent an email to her as well. She really needs to get her facts straight.
It is one thing if she doesn't care for his music, but to call Prince "washed out" is a blatent lie.

Dear M.s Malkin:
I think you have been misinformed regarding the following:

"What it is is a washed-up pop star's crass exploitation of post-9/11 race-card-playing by Arab-American apologists for terror," conservative columnist Michelle Malkin wrote in her Weblog.

This is truly unfortunate, assuming YOU have been misinformed and are not being JUST judgmental or prejudiced yourself, because in turn you are misinforming your readers. Have you seen the video? Do you understand the need to continue to address racism and hatred in this country and how Prince's video helps facilitate ongoing dialogue?

I encourage you to open your mind and provide more insightful reviews....your words, as they stand, encourage the issues that are presented in the video for discussion.

Thank you.
P.S. As for being washed up, Prince is no where close to that nor does this comment do anything but demonstrate your lack of "research" on Prince or the video.

I'm all for writing letters, and I love to see people get passionate about important issues....but this Michelle Malkin chick is a NUT-job.

She went on Hardline with Chris Matthews and started insinuating that John Kerry's gunshot wounds were self-inflicted. Later, she qualified her statement by saying,
"I’m not saying that John Kerry shot himself. But in the Swift Boat Veterans’ book, they ask whether or not his wounds were self-inflicted."

She recently wrote a book defending America's decision to place Japanese Americans in internment camps during WWII, and insists that rather than being sent to an internment or concentration camp, these people were simply "evacuated." She further states that this evacuation was purely a strategical move and was not at all influenced by racism or xenophobia (which was rampant toward Japanese-Americans at the time).

Another scholar who published a book about the same issue (although coming to a markedly different conclusion than Ms. Malkin), Greg Robinson, said of Ms. Malkin and her book:
"Also, Malkin, unlike all other writers I have seen, deliberately impugns the motives of those who disagree with her. Although she sets herself up as a disinterested seeker for truth with an open mind, she is gratuitously nasty towards all others."

The same historian, Greg Robinson, later goes on to say:
"Now that I have covered Malkin's central arguments as fallacious, I would like to step back and look at the work as a whole. I do appreciate the author's willingness to take an unorthodox position, and it is good to put the wartime treatment of the Japanese Americans in perspective—I was not aware that GIs were housed in the stalls at Santa Anita after the Japanese Americans had been confined there. Still, Malkin's book is not a useful work of history, but a polemic that relies for its attraction on sensationalism and overstatement. The author lumps everyone who has ever written on the wartime treatment of Japanese Americans into a single homogenous (and self-interested) group and does not discuss their different arguments, or indeed, their disagreements with each other. Such conspiratorial thinking detracts from the merit of what the author does get right. (A minor but indicative point: in one of the two places where my work BY ORDER OF THE PRESIDENT is cited, the author refers to me as "Canadian historian Greg Robinson." Since the matter of my nationality has no relevance to the point at hand I can only interpret its inclusion as a subtle attempt at discrediting me as a foreigner—in fact I am a born and bred New Yorker, with undiluted fealty to my native land)."

I should have known the e-mails generated from this site are all focusing on the washed up remark.

If that is what you all deem important to react to you are a true FAM...

I myself was hoping it would spark up a debat about the so-called controversy. The political side of it....

Thanks for picking this up justly, Blue Angel.

Ms. Malkin is a strict believer in immediate and mandatory "evacuation" of B-list actors and comedians. She wants internment camps set up on either coast so that we can finally rid our pure nation of their tackiness.

Her bad feelings toward Steve Guttenberg date back to the time her father molested her in the movie theatre while Short Circuit was playing. And then the kicker is that Ms. Malkin was the bottom whore at a gang bang once and Carrot Top refused to fuck her when it was his turn, saying she was too spread out for him, and he wouldn't feel anything anyway. Carrot top doesn't need to just lay the pipe in every open hole, you know.

Ever since then she has held a grudge. Very unprofessional, if you ask me.

Ms. Malkin, please don't make Mr. Guttenberg suffer for your filthy father's sins!!!
