Prince IS 'The Time', as we know it.
Prince wrote 99% of all the songs (and recorded most of them himself as well). Prince owns the name "The Time", not the band themselves.

"How did they get their start?"
In 1980,Morris Day gave Prince a song ("Partyup") which appeared on his 'Dirty Mind' album. In return,Prince secured a record deal for The Time and the rest is history.

I had a dream last night 'bout the upcoming LA concert! man it was a great dream hope the concert is almost as good - but ANYWAYS
I dreamed that Prince was selling 'The Time' CD at the concert?! pretty strange, just thought I'd post that here considering the topic - sorry, i know doesnt have anything to do with the question - but in a way it shows you how much I feel that I must agree with the above reply's Prince is The Time, The Time is Prince that is when he wrote under the name of Jamie Starr! Check The Time album/CD - all songs written by J.Starr I believe is how they word it! We all know that Jamie Starr & "the Starr Company" = Prince ! Peace & chicken grease! www.3121.com
it is the symbol of total transformation. Butterfly represents a need for change and greater freedom, and at the same time it represents courage: one requires courage to carry out the changes

Prince and The Time have always been one of the most unusual collaberations ever.
As Kaylef stated earlier, Prince secured the Time's record deal, which also made Prince (how I'm not sure), their boss. Prince not only wrote damn near all their stuff, he also made business decisions concerning the bands personell, tours, single releases, etc. It was Prince's decision to fire Alexander O'Neal, the orignal lead singer of the Time, and replace him with Morris Day, the original drummer! O'neal's drug problems are well documented and Prince saw this as a detriment and made the switch, It was Prince's decision to fire Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam. After they missed a gig because they were stuck in Atlanta, producing an album for the SOS Band. There was also the issue of the 1999 tour. The Time opened for Prince, but because they were so tight, they routinely upstaged Prince. Prince at the time was quite the egomaniacal control freak, and many believe this regular ass kicking by the Time is what prompted him to be so harsh with Terry and Jimmy. Prince has even stated that the Time is the Only Band that he was ever scared of. Dispite all this, Prince and the Time have made 2 Movies together, Prince wrote or cowrote all the songs on Pandemonium, and The Time was also featured on the Rave Unto the Year 2000 show. And the story continues..... [This message was edited Tue Apr 16 7:03:02 PDT 2002 by ace316] "We can play 4 days! If it get dry, gimme that mayonaise!"

it seems that i read somewhere that "pandemonium" is actually a time album... it's that album where prince has the least amount of input... and if there's any question as to the talent of the time, just check the band live or check out any of their individual projects...
