Shhh, best version? I am so feeling this song right now, and have for a while now. Only Prince could have written this tune and I can't get enough of it.
I have come across some different versions of it such as: Album version Fillmore GlamSlam West I think I like the GlamSlam west version the best (wish the quality was better) Does anybody know of any other official recordings or video performances that may be worth listening to? What band do you think kicks it the best? NPG, Gold era or the current crew? Thanks

The best version, without a doubt, is the 1st version I heard... the Beautiful Experience. Love that performance.
As far as the best band performing it... they're all pretty good, but Michael Bland took complete ownership of the Drums in that song. I hear Blackwell doing it, and I'm thinking to myself... this is Michael's, he's your drumming daddy, on this one.

Definately. I edited the track, so it fades in. Sounds great. The studio version does nothing for me. Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

The first that comes to my mind is the Beautiful Experience one...
With all respect to the current NPG (they are absolutely great), I think NPG 95 played this one better. Same thing with Days of Wild and The Ride. They had some ´punch´ that the ONA band doesn´t.

Ya'll know Tevin Campbell redid the song on one of his albums, right. It's ok.

I got to tell u: i was front row-right on the rail at the Fillmore when he did "Shhh". I know I'll be made fun of, by I almost cried like a little girl. His guitar playing, and Blackwell's drumming was so amazing. The recording is cool as a keepsake...but seeing/feeling the music hit u live was one of my favorite music moments ever.

The Tevin Campbell version came out first if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

Eh, I won't make fun of you. At the Champaign show during that song, Sassy and I were like the cartoon wolf who just saw the love of his life - you know, eyes popping out, hootin' and hollerin', steam comin' out of our ears, our hearts huge and pumping out of our chests, the whole deal. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I don't know if it's available anywhere but that version they did in Tokyo, played on MTV2 about a year ago was amazing - better than any version I've heard so far.

nero Word. I was there too, seeing it live was unreal. Love's no fun when the one you love don't love you.

I remember Tevin's original version being big on urban radio at the time.....Prince obviously envied this and realized how good this song was 4 him.....

I heard them play Shhh in Phoenix and Toronto and both times we were sitting close to JB. The entire song just makes me freak when I see it live, but the second half hits me square in the gut like few other songs I have ever heard P do live. From the time when the band bridge comes back in the for the second time, JB goes nuts on the drums, arms flailing all over the place and then...my God..., Prince comes back in on the guitar and the sound and intensity of the whole band is just overwhelming...man...I am getting chills just thinking about it.
I think that is what I like about the GlamSlam West version. It is a little more uptempo, the crowd is completely losing their minds and the band plays it almost savagely during their parts. It really is, IMHO, one of the best examples of Prince fulfilling his potential as singer, songwriter, balladeer and guitar God all in one song.- at least since the 90's began. I saw the beautiful experience version on TV but have not seen it since. I do remember liking it a lot. Not seen/heard the Hong Kong version Without getting into trouble, is the Beautiful Experience or Hong Kong version available through legal channels on DVD or video? Audio?
