What Song Have Changed Your Life? Have any of Prince songs inspired you or changed your life in a big or little way? Musicology really changed my life when it came to music. It showed me how to appreciate music better and how to give all genres a chance and how to look into who is behind the music and also what his/her music is about. [Edited 10/16/04 14:32pm]

The song Graffiti Bridge made me a raging alcoholic. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

When Doves Cry
I was 15 when that song came out and I bought the album immediately after hearing it. I could not believe other people could hear that song and not just stop, like me, for four minutes and bow down. That song overtook me, in every single way.

[Edited 10/16/04 14:32pm] Prince has had a major impact on my life, as has the music of Presley and Springsteen. For me, Little Red Corvette was a watershed, it let me know just how powerful and potent music could be. In those days, videos weren't quite as prevalent and I remember listening to it in the dark where you can get the full effect of a great song. The baroque style buildup that only got better and better and is one of those rare songs that makes takes on the aura of greatness, that it will have a legacy and gives one that great feeling of being in contact with the eternal. Sorry if it sounds like I'm making too much out of it but that is the one for me. I perform it regularly and it seems to have the same effect on others, after I look into the audience and see astonishment, I realize that I am standing on the shoulders of a giant with this song.

Songs like "Uptown" and "Free" and "Purple Rain" with lyrics telling me it was okay to be me -- same theme popped up in "Walk Don't Walk" among other songs. Plus, I believed in Lovesexy so much, it was hard for me to buy into any of Prince's counter-spiritual stuff that came later on.
