A Couple Of Questions

Would appreciate it if someone could help...

1) 1999 was a double-disc? How come when I bought mine, it was only one disc? Are there more songs to it?

2) Does anyone know where I can get The Black Album?

3) Who is Madhouse and how many albums do they have? Are they worth buying?

4) How many albums did 94 East release, and are they worth buying? And which version of Minneapolis Genius should I get (because I know it was re-released several times)

5) Did the NPG do the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album, and is it worth buying?

6) Will The Chocolate Invasion, The Slaughterhouse, and Xpectation (and etc) ever be officially released on CD?

7) Does anyone have the lyrics to "God"?

8) Are the God (Vocal), God (Instrumental), and God (Love Theme) all different songs?

9) Is The Scandalous Sex Suite just a bunch of mixes of "Scandalous", or is each song different? I thought I heard a guitar solo on "The Rapture". And is this worth buying?

Thanks!

1) I have that same 1999 cd. Apparently when cd's first came out there wasn't enough room to enclude D.M.S.R. To include it would have made it a double cd so it was omitted. Later versions of 1999 is still a single cd but includes D.M.S.R.

3) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/118506

BTW...I want the updated 1999 cd for Christmas *hint hint* wink

Ok, so CD's back then couldn't hold that much material... I see. Then why is Sign O' The Times still a double-disc after all these years. Couldn't they make that one CD too?

Updated 1999?

The total time of all tracks of the sign of the times album probably exceeds 80 minutes. and that's why it's on two cd's.... As for 1999, does anyone remember the two versions that came out on vinyl?
the double vinyl album, and the single vinyl album. the single vinyl album with obviously less tracks then the double pack. I'm not sure if this only came out in Europe, or in the US also. I remember seeing it in Holland....

1) 1999 was a double-disc? How come when I bought mine, it was only one disc? Are there more songs to it?

In 1982, (before CDs/Compact Discs) 1999 was a 2 LP (double album) set.

It included his own artwork on the cover that included a number 1 shaped like a penis, the male and female symbols seperate (in the ‘P’) and combined (upside down in the first ‘9’) for the first time in his career, as well as the name of his band: The Revolution, backwards on the ‘i’ in Prince.

Also, pictures of his eyes, as the holes in two of the 9's, as well as through the hole in the record.

SIDE 1:

1. 1999
2. Little Red Corvette
3. Delirious

SIDE 2:

1. Let's Pretend We're Married
2. D.M.S.R.

SIDE 3:

1. Automatic
2. Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)
3. Free

SIDE 4:

1. Lady Cab Driver
2. All The Critics Love You In New York
3. International Lover

2) Does anyone know where I can get The Black Album?

ebay... or ask someone who has an extra copy.

3) Who is Madhouse and how many albums do they have? Are they worth buying?

Madhouse was a Jazz/Funk band that consisted of Eric Leeds, Dr. Fink, Levi Seacer Jr., another guy who's name escapes me, and Prince. I believe they have 2 offically released CDs titled 8 and 16, and an unreleased one called 24.

4) How many albums did 94 East release, and are they worth buying? And which version of Minneapolis Genius should I get (because I know it was re-released several times)

Too many. Prince had very minimal input, although Pepé Willie claims otherwise, and he re-releases it all the time as his bread and butter.

5) Did the NPG do the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album, and is it worth buying?

Yes and yes!

6) Will The Chocolate Invasion, The Slaughterhouse, and Xpectation (and etc) ever be officially released on CD?

Probably not, but ya never know with him. I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

7) Does anyone have the lyrics to "God"?

God

In the beginning, there was God
He made the earth and the heavens
He gave us light 2 rule the day
And another light 2 rule the night
The Lord, thy God
He made, He made the seas
He made the fruit upon the tree

When He saw
When He saw that it was good
He made a man
He made a man
Only He could, only He could

God made U
God made me 2
He made us all
He made us all equally

Now U say it

God made U, God made me
He made us all equally

Wake up children
Dance the Dance Electric
There isn't much time
Who screamed?
Was it U?

8) Are the God (Vocal), God (Instrumental), and God (Love Theme) all different songs?

Yes. God (Vocal) was the b-side to Purple Rain. God (Instrumental) was played during the love scene in the movie, and in turn became the "Love Theme."

9) Is The Scandalous Sex Suite just a bunch of mixes of "Scandalous", or is each song different? I thought I heard a guitar solo on "The Rapture". And is this worth buying?

I haven't listened to this since 1989/1990, so I can't be of much help. I think it was different remixes of Scandalous. If you're looking to collect everything Prince, it is worth buying.

If I gave any misinformation, someone else can correct it.

The Scandalous Sex Suite is great!

It's basically a 30-minute version of "Scandalous", broken into three "parts." Yes, there's a fantastic guitar solo. It also includes "Sex," a nice little B-side not available anywhere else, and "When 2 R In Love," which of course is also on the Black Album and the Lovesexy album. Prince was obviously pretty fond of this track. biggrin

I did that too - it comes out to about 79 minutes. Back when the original CDs were released, CDs only held about 50 minutes or so.

I turned up the levels a bit too. Sounds way better now. smile

Thanks Batman.

If you all don't mind ( boxed ), I forgot to add some questions.

1) Who is Dorothy Parker?

2) Who is Nikki?

3) What did Jay Leno mean when he asked Prince if he was still playing practical jokes on people back when Musicology first came out? Did Prince do something to Jay? (Jay said something about his chair)

And that's about it... I promise. But thanks again to all who posted.

Oh, and you can put all the songs on SOTT on one disc? Will I have to do it myself, or do you think they'll ever re-release it on a single disc like they did with 1999?

1) Who is Dorothy Parker?

not sure exactly myself, someone on here will know, she was a writer. she has nothign to do with the song proper though. prince had written it when susannah told him abotu dorothy parker or something so he put it as the title etc

2) Who is Nikki?

dont think its anyone in particular. dont know for sure though, for all i know it might have been written for the film and therefore about the fictional apollonia.

3) What did Jay Leno mean when he asked Prince if he was still playing practical jokes on people back when Musicology first came out? Did Prince do something to Jay? (Jay said something about his chair)

yeah the last time prince was on leno he rang in pretending to be a repairman or something, they have a history of playing jokes on each other (though i have a feeling it may have started here or something)

or do you think they'll ever re-release it on a single disc like they did with 1999?[/quote]

nah they'll never do it with sign, its designed as a double album with 4 sides etc, so i doubt they will do it. i really hope they dont.

1) Dorothy Parker was a poet. who said: "I'll wear my heart on my sleeve like a wet, red stain."

Someone once said, that Prince might've taken these words to heart, when he started wearing the heart mirror on his sleeve During SOTT and Lovesexy.

This is strictly my opinion, but I think he named the song after her, cause he thougth she "was cool."

2) Darling Nikki was written about someone and Lisa mentioned it on the Purple Rain SE DVDs. She mouthed the name to Wendy, and a black box: censored was placed over her mouth concealing what she said. To which Wendy looked surprised and said, "we wont tell anyone who that is." My guess... after watching the scene repeatedly was "your sister."

3) Jay Leno said Prince called him at his desk, disguising his voice, and told Jay he needed his chair for maintenance. Just a crank call to get Jay riled up, I suppose. Jay pulled a prank on him and filmed it for his show, the next time Prince appeared.

Playing a security guard, he would not let Prince's limo onto the set until he verified Prince was in it. After a few minutes Prince popped up through the sun roof and told Jay "that was the worst diguise he ever saw, and that he should've filmed it." At which point Jay pointed to the cameras and said: "we did."

1) 1999 a double disk?
A: It was a double record. I actually have a 1-disk copy that doesn't have DMSR on it. wierd.

2) Does anyone know where I can get The Black Album?
A: You can get the black album, Yellow, Welcome 2 the Beatiful Experience, newspaper clippings, t-shirts, and a host of other items at the upcoming Neverland Ranch Auction.
3) Who is Madhouse and how many albums do they have? Are they worth buying?
They're a Prince band. The don't own any of their albums. None of them are great.
4) How many albums did 94 East release, and are they worth buying? And which version of Minneapolis Genius should I get (because I know it was re-released several times)
Don't know.
5) Did the NPG do the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album, and is it worth buying?
No, it is not worth buying. I wish Prince would do a napster style service where songs can be downloaded individually, cause I like 2 songs on it.
6) Will The Chocolate Invasion, The Slaughterhouse, and Xpectation (and etc) ever be officially released on CD?
I'm still waiting on my L41A copy of Crystal Ball.
7) Does anyone have the lyrics to "God"?
Um. Yes, but I forgot the name of the site that does.
8) Are the God (Vocal), God (Instrumental), and God (Love Theme) all different songs?
I don't think so. God Instrucmental actual sounds very sensual in my opinion
9) Is The Scandalous Sex Suite just a bunch of mixes of "Scandalous", or is each song different? I thought I heard a guitar solo on "The Rapture". And is this worth buying?
Each song is different. I guess you could call them mixes, but even the vocal tracks are different. It's almost like different movements of one piece. Very long and drawn out if you ask me. And the little crying sounds in it are creepy.

BatDanceOnFunk

1999 - it wasn't 2 discs; it was 2 vinyl records in the album

Madouse is an old jazz/funk band of Prince's. I'd say to get the CDs for the funky sound, even though it's outdated. I can't find the CDs in stores, though.

GET the Scandolous Sex Suite. It's the same song but each is very different from the other.

The Black Album is still sold in stores. I'm in the DC area and I've seen it around in the CD shops.

I've only seen (and own) one 94 East tape (never saw a CD). One song is kinda good but the sound is old. Not worth the money. You won't impress anyone by having it.

The 1-800-New Funk album was done in the mid-90s. He has a song on it with Nona Gaye. That song was good but the rest isn't worth it. Sorry, P.

So no one here has ever seen or heard about 1999 on one vinyl record? (No, it wasn't the 12" to the 1999 single.) I think it was missing a couple of tracks, don't ask me which ones..

Yes , i read about it in a book i have ,
I'm too lazy to go and look for at the moment
It was released in Europe only because he wasn't well known there ,so they thought nobody would want to buy a double album from a virtually unknown artist

Can't remember the tracklist tho' , but i think it has 7 songs on it

I was just watching it today and tried to guess what she's saying... and that was my guess too. It has to be "your sister"...

The whole behind the scenes -thing is really interesting, especially wendy and lisa parts, they seem to be really touched by the memories.
