Can anyone think of a Prince song written in anything other than standard time? Has he ever done anything in 3/4 or 6/8 or some odd-ball meter like 9/8 or something?

I have every officially released song committed to memory and I've heard a good portion of the unreleased stuff. But I can't think of anything that breaks the 4/4 mode.

Anyone?

i never even thought about that i dont think he ever did a song out of 4/4 time well hes a great musician but not that great

Shit, i'm stumped on that one...beats the hell out of me, but a great question nonetheless...

I hope someone can come up with one...all the obscure sounding songs I think of from him are traditional four count songs.

When I think of some of his most complex rhythmn structures, I always think of Tamborine and 777-9311 comes to mind, but they are both 4/4 as well.....

If you can count the beats and it comes out 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4 -- no matter how fast or slow -- then you're in common or 4/4 time.

So far, I can't even think of a 3/4 (waltz) signature -- 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3....

I think It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night might be in 2/4 (march), but that's the best I can come up with....

The only one I can think of is "A Place In Heaven",
which is in 3/4 time.

Isn't 'She Loves Me For Me' like a waltz?

'Power fantastic' is in 3/4.

'The Question Of U' is in triple time - 12/8

'Diamonds & pearls' contains musical ideas in 4/4, 3/4 and 5/4 time

in written music, the notes are separated into things called measures, and a 4 count beat means there's four notes/beats to a measure. hope that helps some.
