Back in '78-'79, I would have immediately said Patrice Rushen because of all the instruments she plays. In the '80s, Bernadette Cooper was somewhat Prince-like producing songs for Klymaxx, Madame X and Shalamar. She really knew funk. Nowadays I dunno. Missy Elliott? She writes and produces songs for a million other people like Prince used to do in the '80s.

Madonna is like Prince except for her lack of musical expertise.

Joni Mitchell is not like Prince imagewise, but she is like him as an artist. She plays many instruments, has done many styles of music, is well rounded as an artist (good lyrics, melodies, music, performance, good bands, a visual artist, great harmonies), has a diverse fanbase, mainstream, yet too individual to be give the respect she deserves by the media.
