Sheila E. to accept Special World Soundtrack Award This thursday, Sheila E, in name of Wendy & Lisa and the Revolution, will accept the Special World Soundtrack Award at the International Film Festival of Flanders in Ghent. This Festival usually has a special focus on musical scores and soundtracks. The award ceremony is a special event organised to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of the film's release. There will be a screening of a unique documentary before the actual screening of the movie.
www.filmfestival.be Music star Prince stars as "The Kid" in this semi-autobiographical film, which follows the escapades of a tortured young musician trying to survive in a dysfunctional environment. He finds solace in the affections of a lovely young singer, but his first love is making his funky, unique brand of music, which he performs at an ultra-hip Minneapolis nightclub. The Kid must also contend with Morris, his nemesis both in music and romance The popular soundtrack of this highly successful film contains many of Prince's most popular tunes, such as "Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry", and the title song. On the program to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of "Purple Rain"! Superune

Is she accepting the award on behalf of Prince and the Revolution? Or only on behalf of the band? The latter doesn't make sense: Prince was very much a part of the soundtrack! I went to the website but couldn't find the article. At any rate, congratulations to everyone receiving the recognition! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

'Tis Sheila playing drums on "Take Me With U"..... HOw do you know this? I posetd something recently about Sheila working on the Purple Rain soundtrack. I"m sure she did, especially on the incidental music during the movie (there's lots of drums, cymbals, percussion etc.) which sounds like she would have done it. But I can't find any source (i.e. the Vault etc.). Thanks

Well i thought about that too. good you mention it.
But i think Prince was heavy influenced by her back then, so he prabably did all the incidental music for movie. I'm going to see her this very saturday here in Ghent/Belgium accepting the award. full report on request. GaryMF said: soulive said: 'Tis Sheila playing drums on "Take Me With U"..... DOROTHYPARKER: Yes, please do giver us a full report!!! Thanks.
I think Sheila did do some incidental music... I could swear that back then or years ago I remember reading about how they "got back in touch" and she "worked on the purple rain soundtrack" but then never saw her credited. I havent' watched the movie in a while (still going through the special features on the DVD).. but I recall some conga or bongo background music.....which I"m pretty sure is Sheila not Prince playing. I dont' think we've ever seen or heard about him playing those.
