Bwaaa haaaa haaaaa!! Aw Man!!! I just posted this two seconds later, and now it's gonna get deleted!! No fair! Anyway, to reiterate what I said in the thread that'll get deleted, that's the first time I've watched SNL in years! what a stunner. Also, it was refreshing to see an updated Prince impersonation, a new suit instead of the frilly ones, and different expressions than the bug-eyes. His "tantrum" thing was weird though. Yes! This had to be my favorite part of SNL tonight. Fred Armisen is the guy that plays Prince by the way, for anyone that doesn't know. Every element was just right. The tantrum was incredible-haven't laughed that hard at SNL in ages-and you can tell Fred was trying hard to be as close to his voice and mannerisms as possible. They've done a few of these (last season being the first time they showed up) and I always wish they did more. Amy Poehler as Sharon Stone was great too-I love her. Queen Latifah was pretty good, and Maya always does a great Beyonce. I think this sketch shows for Fred how you don't have to look exactly someone to have an impression be really great. I hope they at least do a few more this year.

Anyone else catch this? I didn't really like the skit. It was funny when Prince asked Latifah to get on the carousel horse. I also enjoyed the tantrum moment. I just think SNL is always at its best when it's political. The opening debate parody was full-blown hysterical! Did anyone catch the primetime SNL special, which was ALL political? It was on in the early 90s. It was the funniest 90 minutes that show had ever done. Perot (played by Dana Carvey), Bush (played by Dana Carvey) and Clinton (played by the late Phil Hartman) went up against each other. I still watch that, ever so often. It's one of the funniest compilations of skits ever created. Luv & Peace, Alex Nader, Kerry, Bush; the LOST debate!

Those years and the Not Ready For Prime Time Players years are my favorite eras of SNL. I see what you mean about politics-it's always been a strong way for them to show their skill, but I think at least lately it's rare when SNL has a skit outside of that context that's worth it. The opening debate was so dead-on, last year they were alright, but until this year I wasn't sure they had that power in them. The political skits and Weekend Update seem to be the only consistently funny parts of the show, and there's maybe a few pretty good ones over the season. Phil Hartman was a genius. If you check out http://www.laugh.com they have his comedy album if you haven't heard it.

I'm glad they're still doing the Prince Show....Fred Armisen is a huge Prince fan (and a musician to boot! I think his band is called Trenchmouth) and takes a lot of care to throw in references for the hardcore Prince freaks. Awesome!

I was TOTALLY caught off guard when I saw a NEW "Prince Show" skit last night! Given the current nature of their topics, it really says something about Prince...that he's STILL a hot topic this late in the year.
Usually when a cast member has a character in his/her repertoire, they milk it. I hope that's the case here and we see a few more of those skits this season. Lord knows Mya Rudolph knows what to do...given her heritage, she can sing CIRCLES around poor Queen Latifah. KEITH/kacey

I laughed so hard that my stomach was hurting. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I thought Queen Latifah was very, very good as Patti LaBelle! The mannersisms and style of speech was dead-on. The guy who played Prince was a little too subdued, in my opinion. However, he certainly knew his subject and his falsetto singing was a close approximation. That was a nice touch with the symbol guitar and when Prince only responded to Sharon Stone by whispering his answers to Beyonce. Overall, the skit had some very funny moments, but it seemed to be lacking cohesiveness. The trantum was funny (especially the purple feathers inside the purple pillow), but there did not seem to be a segue between different developments in the skit. For instance, why was Prince having a tantrum? I hope "The Prince Show" will be a recurring skit. The fact that they included this skit (and put it on as the first live skit after the monologue) is a testament to how Prince is a hot topic in the media or popular culture again. Bring on the Prince skits!

I was so drunk last night when this skit came on, I had to ask my friends if that was for real when I woke up this morning. I couldn't breathe I was laughin so hard when Prince had his temper tantrum! ROTFL!
I didn't know they did a few of these skits, but I can't wait to see more. Does anyone have an mpeg of last nights skit?

Now if Prince wanted to do the really classy thing, he would show up to host the next possible edition of SNL, where they were doing the Prince show, and either have Prince imtate the guy who imitated him, or do like Madonna did way back when with Coffee Talk, and make a cameo in humor - say as a janitor who was coming to fix the host's chair (like he wanted to know from Jay Leno!), and then at the end of the skit, everyone would walk off and it would just be Princd making a comment like, "Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery any more." Or something like that...
Say, has anyone realized that if Prince was ever to appear on SNL, he could do just like he does in normal life - be the host, the musical performer, and be in all the skits. (If you're reading this, Prince, take the hint from me and do it!) You already have raised the level of respect people have for you with all you've done this year, but if you did this, it would just be DA BOMB! it would just your record right back up to Number 1 on the chart! Can somebody say "good idea."

True... remember when Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro appeared on the show when that guy was doing the "Joe Pesci Show" where he beat everyone with a bat after interviewing them... it was too funny.
If Prince showed up and "played" with guys at SNL on this... unknowingly - it would be incredible... he does have a sense of humor. Try it out Prince... |

Anyone else catch this? Thought it SUCKED!!!!! These new SNL members can't hold a candle to the old timers... like Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Jane Curtain etc... I think most Prince skits are really lame.. but shows like "Mad TV" and "In living color" have done some MUCH funnier and MUCH better skits.. then "The Prince show".. but just MY opinion.....

Fred Armisen is very talented and is "Dead On It" with his P impersonation.
This is the 3rd one they've done IFRC. He usually name-drops some people only we'd know about (e.g. Susannah, Rhonda etc.). This one had potential to be funny (Latifah's Patti was pretty good). but all in all it wasn't as good as I hoped. The first one was probably the best. But they shoudl keep it going. And if P did a cameo like Madonna did, that would be awesome. Like Janet poked fun at herself when she was part of the skit with the homegirls trying to get janet tickets and her character was like "I heard she got a rib removed" and "i ain't paying that much for Janet, shoot, she aint all that" or somesuch.

Didn't Fred Armisen shout out "NPG" after he did the closing song with the case? I thought I heard him shout out NPG. Think it's cool if he did because as we recall he and a bunch of SNL cast members were at Club Black in NYC and at some of the tour dates.

I didn't really think it was all that funny. I thought the first one with Janet Jackson acting like Paula Abdul was much funnier, although, the Patti LaBelle scene getting onto the carousel and singing was quite funny, and the bug eyes. But the tentrum I could've done without.
Yeah, the sketch came on around 11:46 PST. I was trying to get some sleep, and my dad knocks at my door and says, "Hey, are you watching SNL?" and I'm like "No" because I was kinda tired. So he says, "Well, they're doing this Prince sketch", so of course I had to turn on the TV. My dad knows I like Prince and he does too, so I'm glad he gave me the heads up about it. And, to reply to whoever it was regarding the shouting of the NPG, damn you. I was just about to post that. After the last line of the main theme song of the sketch (Something about waterfalls and climbing rainbow trees), Fred shouted out NPG while he was dancing. I thought that was kinda cool, giving heads up to the fans who know about the club. And, I too think it would be a wonderful idea for Prince to make a cameo. That would be fucking awesome! So Prince, if you're reading this, DO IT MAN!!!

I was about to post about the "Joe Pesci Show". That shit was hilarious! Pesci ---> "Did you hear that Bobby?" DeNiro ---> "I hear things" When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I hope they stop doing it It just wasn't very funny this last time, though the whole Sharon Stone posture thing made me giggle. I dunno, I think they've run out of steam w/ it. But maybe they'll surprise me
And Maya Rudolph looked pregnant . [Edited 10/10/04 16:45pm]

Fred Armisen of SNL is a Prince fan and a member of NPGMC. I read his thread on Prince web site. Didn’t know if u knew he was a member and fan of Prince.
From NPGMC web site: Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words. Again, the piece was done with love and I tried to get a shout out to the NPGMC at the end. It was fun and Queen Latifah was so cool. Also, how amazing was Amy as Sharon Stone? I know that I don't look exactly like the man, but that is a matter of genetics that no amount of makeup can fix! Anyway, I keep my fingers crossed that someday he will be part of it! I would be SO psyched!!! Fred

I happened to flick this on last night and I thought it was total crap. SNL has always been a hit and miss affair, but it just gets worse and worse these days. I may sound bitter, but that
s because it used to be a pretty good show. Stuff like the supposed "humour" of Kerry going over peoples' heads by saying "Orwellian" is a sad comment on the dumbed-down America of today. Belushi would be rolling in his grave. SNL is done and they should stop flogging a dead horse.

Can they at least promise to make it a reality show putting MAD TV up against SNL and whoever loses dies? Then maybe NBC can promise to only show reruns from the Not Ready For Primetime Players years?

I missed it. But by the mixed reactions and my own personal opinion of SNL nowadays, seems to be that I havent missed nmuch, besides "Prince" having a tantrum. &
