WB must be lovin' it: After all the bad blood between them and P, they get to cash in on his popularity this year. confused Well, at least Prince gets his cut of it. nod lol

I love it! I am so excited 4 all his wonderful accomplishments this year. This is diffidently great news. I know he receives royalties from this CD, but explain how it benefits him financially since WB’s gets the large piece of pie. eek

Hey as prince fans don't we all want more people to appreciate his music and talent? Imagine if you weren't a fan but decided to check out very best of Prince CD... that's a nice start ain't it? Some might argue for the purchase of hits/b-sides then... but i don't think non-fans or casual fans would wanna spend money on a comprehensive 3 cd set. My point is.. we all must start from somewhere!

Really, "The Very Best of Prince" was a pretty arrogant title for what was essentially a greatest hits album.

It's only arrogant if Prince himself names it as such. If WB came up with the name, then it's at most hype.

"Prince's Greatest Hits". No problem. Says nothing about the quality of the songs, just the commercial success. It's pretty ridiculous to say that all the very best of Prince's songs have been hit singles. We fams know that some of his brightest gems are album tracks, b-sides, and unreleased.

My feelings on this are ambivalent at best. While it's true that the album only went platinum in the first place because of the Musicology concert tour, and the renewed interest in Prince, the fact still remains that this was not a Prince-authorized album. This was a prime exmaple of what Prince calls "Trying to slice a piece of the purple pie." Prince did the whole hits thing (probably at the urging of WB) back in 93, and that collection was much better, because it included the notorious "killer B-sides." My sentiment was, "The new CD probably only has new pics on it, but I've heard all the songs on it and there's no need to buy it."

On the other hand, a platinum album is a platinum album, and no matter what, this can't be a bad thing, and even though it's much less than he'd like, Prince is still gettin' paid (unless this was something he signed away when he arranged to get out of his contract early in 96). And even though Prince had many records in the 90s go at least gold (D&P - 2x Plat., Symbol - gold, TMBGITW - gold single, The Gold Experience - gold, Emancipation, 2x Plat., Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic - certified gold, a certified record is still a thing to beauty.
