I think it was of the time.

Sampling was big then, House was becoming a commercial force in music, Batdance is surely Prince's ultimate experiment with House and sampling at the time - I like the fact that is very of the time, like many things 88-91.

It's pretty annoying, I must agree. Especially during "Trust." I've always hated that break--"Gentlemen, take the pictures...Gotham's greed." I hate that shit.

On the other hand, though, there's no sampling on my favorite track "Scandalous."

Look at it from the perpective of someone who is a fan of Batman/the movie.

You buy an album that is the Batman soundtrack, but it has NOTHING to do with the movie. That'd be annoying. The samples tie it all in.

Few things are worse than a soundtrack that really has nothing to do with the movie, other than the title. Batman fans loved the fact that snippets of the dialogue were mixed in Prince's music.

I like the movie soundbites. They're short and not obtrusive to the musical funktitude.

I like the soundbites too. It makes it fun to watch the movie and hear all those familiar lines in the full context. It definitely helps if you like the movie.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

But if you hated the movie, then you're forced to relive the horror everytime you listen to the album.

But the album is awful, so I don't know why you'd want to relive THAT horror either.

So I guess it doesn't matter since I'm currently using my limited edition CD as a coaster.

Funny? I think the album was funny, even when it came out. And yes, I really am using it as a coaster. Honestly.

I think it worked and served a purpose for the particular project he was working with. I must say, I was extremely disappointed with the movie though.

Sampling bits from movies is still going on .... "What More Can I Say" on Jay-z's black album for example with the excerpt from Gladiator.

I do agree that the Batman album sounds a bit dated now but at the time Batdance seemed to be pushing the envelope in house terms. I'm still kind of fond of the album. My major complaint is silly lyrics. (When I'm working on my jobba etc)
