I love Rick James, I'm a big fan, but his stuff isn't as deep as Prince's - Prince is far more interesting lyrically, where as Rick is more surface level - which I'm not knocking him for, just observing. I agree with you 100%.

Jon said: Fleshofmyflesh said: his overt sexuality would be just plain SCARY. I don't think America is ready for a BIG BLACK MAN talking about lions in his pocket ready to roar or anything remotely similar. (Rick James tried it and it was just plain gross. Plus, he was ugly, which didn't help.)
Prince's slight build and gentle nature has allowed him to be as free with his sexuality as he wants to be. I know he used to feel bad about being short but he shouldn't because he could have never gotten away with it as a big dude. Imagine if Prince looked like Chewbakka but was still Prince! I gotta say I definitely agree with all those that've said Prince height and looks ('cause he's fairly feminine even without the makeup) affected his outlook on certain matters -which would have in turn affected his songwriting.
On a more superficial note, large men simply cannot pull off makeup and women's clothes unless it's full drag, and even then it has to be extremely well-done. Take Bowie, for example -the androgynous Ziggy Stardust look just wouldn't have been as visually effective if he was a big guy. And it's the same with Prince. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
