This morning on the Today Show, there was a discussion about controversial music videos. The segment focused on Eminem's new video mocking Michael Jackson and on Prince's Cinnamon Girl. They noted that few people actually see videos anymore and that Prince's was actually only available on-line at the present. To his credit, Joel Levy from Rolling Stone properly commented that the Cinnamon Girl video appropriately matches the song as the girl becomes a "victim of hate" after 9-11 attacks and the airport explosion fantasy is just a thought by her--not an actual action. The Today Show host cautioned that people might be more sensitive to a terrorist implication in a video but the guests countered that the video being online prevents as much controversy as people are seeking to see the video.

That's quite true. You can't exactly go, "I was outraged by this video! I was even more outraged that it took me hours of searching the internet to find it!"

A bit like people who write in to complain about tv programs,"I was so deeply offended by this 2 hour filth-fest that I had to watch every second of the repeat just to make sure..."
