PRINCE "THE WORK" VOL 1-5???? Has anyone seen or bought the cd bootlegs of "THE WORK"- vol 1 thru 5. I have seen them out there and they look like a nice collection of stuff that is already out there. I was just wondering what the quality of these are. 4 discs per set is a nice collection for someone starting to pick these up and cover alot of years of material. Hope someone can give me an answere??? "

Yeah, I have that set. It's a pretty comprehensive set of Prince's studio outtakes and demos from '76 up 2 '01. Theres also some unreleased studio tracks on there 2. The sound quality on the later recordings is much better than the earlier outtakes, but it's generally a very good set. It's a lot of music, I've had it since Christmas and there are still a few discs I haven't gotten all the way through. The Mothership Connection... Funk, Soul, R&B, & Jazz every Monday night @ 8:00 p.m. Listen @ www.wqaq.com (We are off the air 4 the Summer. Returning in early September 2004)

Yup, it's a pretty comprehensive set - although I note that there are still a few gaps - right across vols 1 to 5 - Some demos and outtakes have been left out, like the really early version of 'Computer Blue' [St Louis Park warehouse version], amongst others, maybe owing to lack of space...(watch out for the fakes, like "If I Had A Harem II"... that one is definitely NOT Prince!!!)
Still, it's probably the best collection of unreleased material ever assembled, and for someone who has just started collecting I can't think of a better introduction than this. Quality wise, it's good...the label have merely pumped up the volume on some of the tracks that were barely audible on previous bootleg releases. I also notice that the bass frequency seems to have been beefed up overall, which might not necessarily mean an improvement in sound quality... "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
