Manic Monday - "bus" or "boss"

What (or who) is "already there"?

I reckon boss, my friend says bus.

Not the most important thing in the world, I know!!

Uh... no, I think you're deaf. Bus wouldn't make any sense in that verse.

How would a person have the option of taking a train or a bus in the same place? It's either a train station or a bus station, not both combined.

The only reason to blame something, for being late to work, is to your boss.

It's ok, hearing gets worse as you get older.

5 other websites say otherwise... so I guess everybody in the world, except you, is deaf.

It's BUS, most definitely. Logic says so and good lyric writing says so.

It makes perfect sense.

'Blame it on the train (a vehicle), but the bus (another vehicle) is already there' makes sense. It's like saying that making the excuse that the train was late means nothing because the protagonist (singing) could have taken the bus which would have arrived on time.

'Blame it on the train, but the boss is already there' doesn't make any sense at all.

One lyric site was wrong and the others have clearly just copied what they've put - period.

I don't think 'bus' makes sense.

"Blame it on the train, but the bus is already there" isn't logical because a bus and a train are entirely different modes of transportation. Just because a bus gets somewhere easily or at a certain time doesn't mean the train should have or will. And some people - like those that live on Long Island or wherever - HAVE to take a train into the city because that's the only way into town (unless they can maybe take a ferry?)

"Blame it on the train, but the boss is already there" makes more sense (to me, at least) because what it's saying to me is this: "I can't blame my tardiness on the train because the boss - who ALSO takes the train - IS already here on time, so my excuse of a late train would be feeble and transparent".

Oh lawd! I thought I was sad bothering to respond to those who mistakenly think that it's 'Boss'. But to look into it as deeply as you are is truly sad. Which part of the lyric says that the Boss takes the train?

It's 'Bus'. And that's all there is to it! It makes perfect sense and that's what the lyrics say.

'Boss' makes no sense whatsoever and doesn't link at all to the 'train' lyric.

Cripes. I wasn't "looking into it deeply". I was merely explaining the logic behind my personal perception of the meaning the lyrics.

I apologize if, in doing so, I used too many words all together at the same time for you to handle. rolleyes

Actually, I think it's "Blame it on the train but Busey's already there".

As in Gary Busey. You ever seen the show "I'm With Busey"? That guy takes no crap.

I agree with your assessment there. It's basically saying she'd use an excuse such as the train, but it won't work. SHe's late for work...and the bus isn't going to get here on time...so I think it's Boss. I have tried to use this excuse, but my boss was like, I took the train, I didn't notice any delay.

Either one would make sense -- she would like to be late and blame it on the train, but the bus has already arrived, which would take her there just as quickly. Or she is late cuz of laziness or sleeping in and blames it on the train, but the boss is already there and he would've caught the train as well, so she can't use that excuse.

Who the hell cares anyway?

Exactly, either way she's busted. The fix is in. Ready to bust her balls for being late again.

whistle blame it on the train but the bust is already there.
