Erotic City I am of the opinion that Prince reached the height of his power at the exact time he put the finishing touches to Erotic City. Everything else had its moments, but there was never, in my opinion, a moment where he displayed the power he displayed with this song. Have you heard the Revolution work through this song in rehearsal with Prince playing his guitar like he is going out of his mind, or when Lisa is told to "put some horns on it?" Not to mention the power of the extended, studio version at the time it was released? Purple Rain was the height of his power, whether you want to dispute this or not, and Erotic City was the zenith of this period and his power. | |

I think "Erotic City" was definately released at the very tip top of his career. The album "Purple Rain" was already out so "Erotic City" was the last true hardcore funk jam that Prince made using the Minneapolis Sound. He was at the top of the mountain and there was nowhere left to go but down. Andy is a four letter word. | |

Which version does he tell her do this? And does she? I know I have some rehearsal MP3s somewhere. The version I have is 11:12 long. It's mostly an instrumental version of Erotic City and Prince is just wailing on his guitar for about 7 or 8 minutes while the Revolution is providing the beat. Then he breaks it down and starts playing a piano solo and then asks Lisa to put some horns on it, she does, of course, and the band just freaking jams. | |
