"starvation" in Mountains?

At 3:38 in Mountains, does P. say "starvation"?

Or was I hallucinating?

If he does, does anybody know if there was a reason?

Common belief is that he's saying "Salvation". But who knows.

I always thought he said "Starfish"

just cause it's from that time when
he recorded Starfish & Coffee and
Dorothy Parker and such.

I've been wondering that since 1986 or whatever year the song came out! smile

I guess it could be related to the earlier line about "Africa divided...hijack in the air."

I thought "Africa divided" was a direct reference to Apartheid, but I'm sure there was still famine going on (USA for Africa) etc.

The extended version is awesome.

The drumming is really interesting.. it's like a combination of the Linn and live at certain points.

i always thought this song was written around the time of "hello", maybe just after his whole usa for africa fiasco, or maybe even after live aid. whenever and whatever, it's my favorite prince song. dancing jig

It is "starvation".

And yeah, the thing before Girls And Boys is so damn annoying.

Isn't there something right before Do U Lie? kicks in, too? Right after the little girl talks.

And the wierd beep in the song "Lovesexy." The part where he's talking about swiveling in your love seat. He grunts, then there's a pause followed by a beep (like an error on a computer). I didn't hear it for a few years, and then I could never ignore it once I heard it!

And I hate to admit I never noticed "starvation" in Mountains until about two years ago. It's one of the awesome things about his songs (particularly from that era) that I can listen to them 18-20 years later and still find new things.

That Lovesexy bleep kills me. I thought something was wrong with my copy when I first got it. Then I realized everyone's beeped. lol

Love the BEEP. I noticed it a long time ago. But it took a long time to really hear the word in that section. It's all about Living Rooms nod

Has anyone ever heard someone shouting what sounds like 'Matthew!!' in the distance during Christopher Tracy's Parade. I haven't heard it in a while but I think its just before 'runs to his evil car???'. Used to freak me if I was listening to it when I lived at home as name is Matthew and I always thought it was my Mum calling me. eek

That is so weird! I have had the same experiene with many Prince tunes. Those kind of
unidentifyable vocals in the background that seem to shout something in the distance.

I would listen to my headphones and have to take them off every 5 minutes because I
thought my mom was calling from downstairs that dinner was ready or something

Could so much of this being on Parade have anything to do with the album dealing with death and ghosts, at least in it's earlier stages?

I always thought Lisa was shouting "Bobby on Tuba". I know he doesn't play the tuba but that's what I hear.
