Fred Armisen of SNL is a Prince fan and a member of NPGMC. I read his thread on Prince web site. Didn’t know if u knew he was a member and fan of Prince.

From NPGMC web site:
Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words. Again, the piece was done with love and I tried to get a shout out to the NPGMC at the end. It was fun and Queen Latifah was so cool. Also, how amazing was Amy as Sharon Stone? I know that I don't look exactly like the man, but that is a matter of genetics that no amount of makeup can fix! Anyway, I keep my fingers crossed that someday he will be part of it! I would be SO psyched!!!

That's awesome! headbang

They need to hang it up already. The past skits were funny but last night sucked! Queen Labeefa was horrible and the guy doing P looked awful. Enough already!

LMFAO!! falloff

Got Prince in his blue suit, with the prince guitar...

Guests: Queen Latifah as Patti LaBelle
"Sharon Stone"
and "Beyonce" as his co-host

Oh my god... the guy who played Prince was too funny!

Anyone else catch this?

sad Thought it SUCKED!!!!! These new SNL members can't hold a candle to the old timers... like Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Jane Curtain etc...
I think most Prince skits are really lame..
but shows like "Mad TV" and "In living color" have done some MUCH funnier and MUCH better skits.. then "The Prince show".. but just MY opinion.....
neutral

Agreed. As a P fan, I thought the SNL skits suck and are ridiculous! After while, the same shit b/c lame. SNL needs to put away thier hateraide.

I'm glad they're still doing the Prince Show....Fred Armisen is a huge Prince fan (and a musician to boot! I think his band is called Trenchmouth) and takes a lot of care to throw in references for the hardcore Prince freaks. Awesome! thumbs up!

nod I love the references too! It's actually kind of surreal to see someone on national TV saying that shit!

I didn't really like the skit. It was funny when Prince asked Latifah to get on the carousel horse. I also enjoyed the tantrum moment. I just think SNL is always at its best when it's political. The opening debate parody was full-blown hysterical! lol

Did anyone catch the primetime SNL special, which was ALL political? It was on in the early 90s. It was the funniest 90 minutes that show had ever done. Perot (played by Dana Carvey), Bush (played by Dana Carvey) and Clinton (played by the late Phil Hartman) went up against each other. I still watch that, ever so often. It's one of the funniest compilations of skits ever created.

Luv & Peace,
Alex
Nader, Kerry, Bush; the LOST debate!

Absolutely!

Those years and the Not Ready For Prime Time Players years are my favorite eras of SNL.

I see what you mean about politics-it's always been a strong way for them to show their skill, but I think at least lately it's rare when SNL has a skit outside of that context that's worth it.

The opening debate was so dead-on, last year they were alright, but until this year I wasn't sure they had that power in them.

The political skits and Weekend Update seem to be the only consistently funny parts of the show, and there's maybe a few pretty good ones over the season.

Phil Hartman was a genius.

If you check out http://www.laugh.com they have his comedy album if you haven't heard it.

biggrin

I've heard it dozens of times. He was a comedic genius. His Bill Clinton was better than Bill Clinton's Bill Clinton. I'll never fully understand why his wife went psycho and killed him. It's pretty sad.

I agree that SNL's two greatest moments were the "not-ready-for-primetime-players" and the Farley, Hartman, Sandler, Carvey years. Do you remember when Entertainment Weekly gave the ENTIRE SNL cast "entertainer of the year?" They deserved it. I think I like that 92-95 cast better than the originals, and that's saying something. This year, I haven't been very impressed with the cast, at all. Most of them are new and not many are very memorable. The debate skits have been decent, although the VP debate skit was pretty lame.

I agree, 100%. Prince needs to stop taking himself so seriously. He pisses, ****s, burps and shits just like the rest of us.

That wasn't a pretty picture I painted, was it?

Hartman was the master. I file it under taking away the truly gifted and keeping people on that should've died years ago (Keith Richards). It's very sad, hard to grasp that someone that just wanted to make people laugh has to end that way.

I remember that! That's very rare, especially for SNL to have an entire cast awarded anything.

Those years were magical like the first years of the show, everything just seemed to click-and there's no recreating it.

This year has been shaky like the past few years. I love Tina Fey the most, Amy Poehler has been one of the better ones (I'm a fan from her Upright Citizens Brigade days), I think Fred Armisen and Will Forte show some good promise given the right roles.

Horatio I'm a fan of but I'm not sure what he'll do much beyond be the funny fat guy now that the stoner sketches have ended. Maya Rudolph I think is another one that isn't used near as much as she should be. They've got good people, but the cast as a whole isn't remotely as good as the early days or the 90's.

It seems more and more they're not willing to take chances on SNL anymore-they have to rehash a certain number of sketch ideas to meet their quota it seems like. It's more about the guest star than it is having stuff that the cast could stand well on their own.

The debate one was good, but the debate itself was hilarious alone. The VP was very weak, I keep wishing I had an opportunity to help write just to tell them they have all this potential so go out of the norm a little bit more.

Who knows how long the show will last, if you had asked me after the Carvey/Myers/Hartman years after that cast left if I wanted to see it go on I would've said no just to hold the memory.

Maybe it'll get back on track somehow-they come up from treading water with something good every once in a while.

These Prince show scits have been moderately funny. The only time I laughed hysterically was during the SNL Prince show with Janet Jackson as Paula Abdul when he disappears from the chair, and paula asks, where did Prince go? and Maya Rudolph playing Beyonce says, Prince wants to cry now. Then Fred as Prince starts writhing on the floor doing his best Prince moans and screams. This is the funniest one that I have kept on tape. The last one with Queen Latifah as Patti Labelle, at the end Fred shouted NPG!! I thought that was so funny because he's obviously a fan. He's definitely got the Princisms down.

phil's prince was pretty dead-on, right down to the voice. nod i didn't see the snl skit, i rarely watch the show anymore anyways. e! used to show reruns of the old-skool snl, like from the late '70s/early '80s and i watched those.

Yes! I like the fact that PRINCE is being thought about enough to include him in a skit!

When I saw the first skit with Fred as Prince, I woke my sister up because I couldn't believe it! It is adorable, indeed.

Aw Man!!! mad

I just posted this two seconds later, and now it's gonna get deleted!! No fair!

Anyway, to reiterate what I said in the thread that'll get deleted, that's the first time I've watched SNL in years! what a stunner.

Also, it was refreshing to see an updated Prince impersonation, a new suit instead of the frilly ones, and different expressions than the bug-eyes.

His "tantrum" thing was weird though.

So, uh... you think he's gonna do it again this Saturday? Who would you like to be his guest stars this week?

Sorry to all the folks with no sense of humor, but this was truly funny.
