"Dance On," actually, is my Prince song of the day Dang, the Lovesexy period was just the bomb, for me. But, every now and then, I get hung up on Sheila's drumming, Prince's guitar playing and tone, the futuristic-yet-retro-now drug scene deconstruction, it's Sly Stone, it's Steve Vai, it's Prince, it's bleak, it's funkay, Prince pants during a break like the groove is wearin' him out, the bass guitar cameo, Sheila's harmonizing, M&M killers playin' Mickey Mouse games, the rock guitar doubling the keyboard bass riff, Detroit, "everybody dance on..." This song is still the spankin', ever-lovin' JAM!!! And, the best part about it all is ... it's followed by "Lovesexy!" ("Dig me, now...")

A bass guitar in spider webs, longing for the funk
An uzi gun takes its place in a wagon trunk (get off me punk, you ain't sexy!!) Stealin' ladies purses, and settin' them aflame M&M killers playin' Mickey Mouse games (Aw, Mercy!) Everybody Dance On, Dance On Okay, I gotta bust out that boot remaster of Lovesexy as soon as my boyfriend's girlfriend gets the fuck outta dodge. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

This is seriously one of the most underrated Prince song ever! Nearly everytime this song comes up on this site, people slam it and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I mean what the fuck are some of the sounds in this song? The drum beat is kickin all the way through. The guitar and the happy sounding organ. The message. Damn, if you aint feelin this song, you got to be 6 feet under already! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

To me, the Lovesexy LP was a big come down from Sign O' the Times. Aside from those two songs, it just didn't grab me. But to each his own.

Yeah, I started this thread while listening to "Dance On" at my computer.
Now, having heard it in my car system again for the first time in a minute, I just gotta shake my head. Sheila was playin' the mess outta them drums.

I would have to agree. Dance On is quite a crazy track. It's one of my favorites next to the title track and When 2 R In Love. Awesomeness. Ooh, little darlin' if you're
