I really think this will b another flop 4 prince in the UK, this song sounds like nothing new, it wont do well!

If he was 2 bring out "call my name" then there would b a difference, a load of young ppl love that sound!

It will flop. It's tired sounding and has been put back way too much... there's absolutely no momentum left whatsoever.

How hard can it be to make a video and time it's completion with the release of the single? You'd think it was rocket science judging by how Prince seems to mess it up with practically every commercial release.

The only songs on Musicology that would've been hits in the UK are Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance and What Do U Want Me 2 Do. These would've set the charts alight probably on both sides of the Atlantic.

Instead we get a tired James Brown-pastiche (the title track - which has absolutely no commercial viability whatsoever) and a 80's sounding Radio 2 rock filler.

Seriously, whoevers making these decisions deserves a bullet through the head.

Prince seems to not have a clue about what the public will dig and what they won't.

He can still write a hit he's just out-of-touch with the record-buying public and what they'll like. That's probably why - ticket scams aside - he hasn't had a hit in well over a decade.

Actually, I disagree with most of the statements on this thread.

Cinnamon Girl is the first song in a long time that most of my non-Prince fan friends are enjoying and singing along to. Finally, he (or his record company) have chosen the right song to appeal to the masses.

It's a catchy, straightforward song with an interesting lyric, it's commercial sounding and therefore it's perfect single material.

And appealing to the Radio 2 listener is no bad thing, especially as that's where most Prince fans will be when it comes to mass radio listening.

News for some Prince fans - Prince doesn't appeal to the young masses anymore and Radio 1, quite understandably, simply won't play his stuff.

I think fans of any artist forget that the songs they like as a fan are seldom the songs that will appeal to the masses, as has been shown by some of the replies on this thread.
