You mean young people today don't rollerskate? I can see that's true. Although, once in a while I'll catch an 'inline blader' on the streets of Silver Lake in Los Angeles. I wish today's kids could find something as communal and upbeat as we had back in the day.

Confession: I own a Backstreet Boys CD too.

Rollerskating and rollerblading aren't quite the same thing, but no matter. I wish there was something communal too. There's such a division (where I live, anyway) between the social cliques. The goths don't talk to the preps, the punks don't talk to the jocks, etc. There's not much by the way of outright violence here, but there's a huge amount of underlying hatred. It'd be great if there was something the different groups could have in common.....

Which CD? biggrin

I always thought of rollerblading as a modern update on rollerskating. I see a connection there somewhere. Regardless, those divisions between social cliques have always been there in the youth culture. Even in the 50's, when rock n roll was just beginning the youth culture movement, there were the 'squares' and 'hipsters' who never interacted just the same way the goths and preps don't today. Nothing is really new under the sun, as they say. These social patterns repeat over and over again. I just don't see any positive physical activities for the kids who want to interact in today's youth culture.
