I realise i am going off in a slight tangent but the guitar solo in "just my imagination" on small club bootleg makes the hairs stand up for me, ..its totally amazing....play that shit at a high volume and just let it wash over you.

KISS is really ez to play...its always about the FEEL....the notes are simple....listen to james browns "soul power" and u will hear the original KISS riff....smile

Yeah, and the guitar break in "Kiss" is originally from "Papa's got a brand new bag", but that's quite obvious...

Also, the groove in "Sexy MF" comes from James Brown's "Super bad". And in "Gett off", he sampled and quoted "Mother popcorn". I'm sure there are lots of other examples as well...

I've seen P more times than I can count, and remember debating his axe genius with others as far back as the Controversy/1999 days. The man has literally brought me to tears with the preternatural ability that he has to communicate directly with one's soul on his guitar. His catalog of riffs is beyond impressive, beyond staggering even. That being said, I've never seen anything that blew me away like his solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps at the R&R Hall of Fame Ceremony. I just could'nt believe what I had just witnessed! eek Apparently, neither could a lot of America that woke up the next morning. So striking was this solo that most P fans that I know talked about it more than the performance of his own material.
That solo was absolutely nuclear! P is a baaad man cool ! Still, I wonder if he will ever get his just due for being the virtuoso of the six string that he truly is?

i heard about that performance and was wondering where one could get it?

I could never take the place of your man

someone once told me that those were fake guitar licks he used on that song. On Sign O The Times, the masterpiece of his 80's prime, he used mainly synthesizers, dated and undated, because mostly all of those late-80's albums used that type of technology at that time- synthesizers and drum machines. They didn't use those typical, live instruments musicians used just like Prince in the 70's and early 80's.

I'm intrigued. I missed this, and from what I've read online after looking at your post, that solo was really spectacular. Any idea where it might be viewed online?

I'm not sure if this is still available, but I was able to go the the official Hall of Fame sight to view it some time back. Perhaps you can start a thread asking about a download of it. Someone in the org is sure to have it.
