Will Prince go double platinum? Musicology is approaching double platinum status, but the album just plummet out of the top twenty. The album drop from the 12th spot to 122nd position on billboads top 100's chart. Cinnamon Girl could very well be the answer and put Musicology back in the top ten and double platinum. If the album do not get banned in the US.

It's a very reasonable assumption to assume that word of mouth could push an additional 100,000 units in the next year or so, so yes, it might go double platinum.
I doubt Cinnamon Girl will send it back onto the charts, but you never know. I recall (and I could be wrong here) a friend of mine playing Santana's Supernatural for me what seemed like months before it became the biggest album of the year, so it's true that some albums sit around for a while before they become a success. So how much has it reportedly sold? Heading upto 2 million? In contrast, Diamonds & Pearls sold over 5 million, on the basis of good, catchy singles. I'm not doing Musicology down, but there's been more talk of it's success than there ever was with D & P and yet with all promotion and giveaways, I'm surprised it hasn't sold more.
I tend to think, it just shows that a great album will almost sell itself if the songs are catchy enough!

4 not getting much airplay it did exceptionally well with the concerts giveaways. P has stirred up a lot of controversy with the giveaways. Due 2 all the controversy, I don’t think they really want it 2 go double platinum. IMHO, I find it hard 2 believe it hasn’t already gone double platinum.

Its no use comparing an album from 1991 to an album from 2004 by an artist never mind Prince! Its a well known fact that even the most famous artists in the world dont sell as many albums now as they did then.
Its creeping up on 1.9million according to Billboard, but prince claimed it had sold 450,000 copies online either from retailers or from the NPGMUSICCLUB. He still made the same profit from the album on his site as he did from the physical copies sold at retail, therefore, these additional sales should b factored in. As well as this u can be sure that Musicology has sold at least another 1million throughout the rest of the world, as it charted top 10 in a lot of European Countries! This essentially puts total sales worldwide at 3-3.5 million copies. If he decides to tour Europe where there has been virtually no promotion this could push sales to 4.5-5million. Also someone mentioned D+P's selling 5million, the actual figures for that album stand at 7million worldwide!
