Princicology? Prince as the subject of academic study I’m sure there are several orgers out there who deserve honorary degrees in this subject.
The man and his music clearly deserve scholarly recognition. Does anyone knows where I might find any academic articles, theses, dissertations etc that have been written about or refer to Prince – his music, his ‘celebrity identity’ etc.? That is to say writing that considers Prince in relation to cultural theory, sociology or similar. Last week there was a conference on Michael Jackson scheduled at Yale and I know that Madonna has been the subject of university courses and studies. Who out there has a “PhD in advanced…” Prince? I was going to do my undergrad honors thesis on a critical analysis of Prince's lyrics, however there is no scholarship out there on the topic and so my thesis would be entirely based on my own opinions. My advisor suggested my 2nd choice, Jack Kerouac, would be an easier write-up. However, now I kind of wish I'd written on Prince...I could have been a pioneer of sorts. There is a book out on the market - some professor wrote a literary criticism of Prince's lyrics, but I'm not sure how good it is. I have done a few papers on Prince. My best one was "Anna Stesia" analyzed deconstructively, which happened to win an award at a school conference. Anyway, in my papers I usually pull sources by looking at album reviews and magazine articles. I have not found any published journal articles that have material focused solely on Prince, although I'm sure a more comprehensive search may turn some up.

That's cool.
I did find one article online: White, Jeff. (1999, Spring) . Prince and in The Black Album Tangle: A Foucauldian View Enculturation, Vol. 2, 2, Available: http://enculturation.gmu.edu/2_2/white/ Would you consider sharing that paper you wrote? Seeing there's not much out there you should try publishing. I promise not to plagiarise. Maybe send an orgnote? Cheers Call her green and the winter cannot fade her | |
