If I could delete on Prince work from history, it would be the movie "Purple Rain". It's a wonderful movie but if it had not been so successful, Prince could not have afforded to change his musical style with "Around The World In A Day". Andy is a four letter word.

It made me stop listening to Prince for the longest time. Yes, I'd lump the album and film together. Grafitti Bridge was the first Prince album I had bought on the day of release after getting into him in '88. Nowhere near as exciting as discovering the back catalogue over the previous year.

But really, I wouldn't want to be rid of the bad songs. We need the crud to give us something to compare the masterpieces to. That's some cold shit

That's some cold shit The first time I heard "Cream" was when Prince performed it on Arsenio Hall -- man, that was cool! But when I heard the album version, I was like "Wha..?!"

What album would I delete? Probably New Power Soul. I know lots of folks dig "Come On" and "The One" but the only track on NPS that I love is "Wasted Kisses". Right on Baby, Right on (I mean Jughead? What the !@#@ was that about)

I have come to the very sober conclusion that P hasn't released a 'bad' album in his life.
First I thought D&P sucked, but actually I started appreciating it. Then I thought Come sucked, but it turns out to be a fascinating little album. Same with C&D; The I thought Emancipation sucked, but considering its volume and the unique place it has in P's career, it's actually quite cool. New Power Soul was also shit to my ears, but six years later I must say it has some cool ditties. Rave, same story... In short, I like every album! They're all 'unique'! The albums post 2000 are a return to higher standards in my opinion though. TRC, Musicology, ONA Live, Xpectation & NEWS are all the bomb to me... 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

TRC attepted to combine elevator music, funk and obscure and strangly rigid theology. The result was about as interesting and untalented as William Shatner doing a poetry reading of the phone book.

Gold Nigga or Kama Sutra.
Worst Prince albums ever. Y'all are fools for picking his proper albums. . [Edited 10/12/04 10:35am]

Calling TRC "elevator music" and as untalented as William Shatner reading the phone book? I can understand not liking it, but even its detractors recognize the musicianship. Regardless of the fact that you obviously enjoy TRC, that doesn't mean the fact that I don't like it doesn't make sense. Depite the fact that there were very able musicians on that project (P himself included) their talents did not include making interesting jazz fusion in my opinion. A musician may be of an excellent technical merit, but part of talent in my view is being able to create or recognize quality material. Which TRC (once again in my opinion) is not. It sounded like Muzak to me. The best comparison I can make is a bunch of Oscar winning actors in a poorly written and directed movie. They may have put on excellent performances in their individual roles, but it doesn't save the movie as a whole from being shitty. [Edited 10/12/04 11:15am]

Hard choice but in the end I go with Rainbow Children...some albums sound like"the beginning of the end" but this one sounded like "the end of the end". It was almost unrecognizable as a Prince album to me...so esoteric and preachy and unfunky. I almost gave up hope after it and didn't even buy NEWS. But, like always, the man had a surprise up his sleeve...Musicology while not a great album showed some flashes of Prince brilliance. All good things they say never last...
