Why?

Apparently because the video depicts a middle eastern girl "dreaming" about blowing up something as retaliation ("terrorism"...)
MTV isn't banning the video since they'll show it starting next week, so the blame is not to be put on MTV as many idiots will do...

Neversin.

Thx!

This is insulting. The powers that be can not censor what art we consume. This is a free land, a democracy ... supposedly.

Apparently, they can.

Isn't Green Day number one with 'American Idiot'?! I'm surprised the government didn't force them to change it to 'America is great and everything is fine' just in case someone somewhere was offended that some Americans might be seen as 'idiots'.

Typically in the UK, if you ban a song, it goes to number one on the notoriety alone. Not sure if that would be true if only the video was banned...

Its so funny how MTV would rather show someone degrading themselves trying to be a thug and looking foolish..or women objectifying themselves over showing the Cinammon Girl video....that says a lot about society

Either way, whether or not they're playing it, "banned" is not the appropriate word to use. If they're not playing it, they chose not to play it - there was nobody forcing them not to.

We force Iraq to conform to our skewed vision of democracy here, but degrade actual democratic values with this ban.

Too bad Prince cannot sue MTV.

is there anything online about this? I can't find anything - All I can find is the article where MTV is scheduled to screen the video monday to decide if they will add it. How can it be banned before they've even looked at it?

I think we all may be freaking about this a bit too early. There is nothing on the Sites about
it yet. Maybe it hasn't been aired or published yet.....just word of mouth. I still wouldn't put it past them, though.

Exactly. One of the mods should change the title of this thread, since it is misleading - Well, not so much misleading as it is a lie. eek Unless someone can point us to something that says MTV has decided NOT to show the video.

nod Exactly. Once again P has pulled another mind fuck game on MTV Networks and society by making a video that is controversial and is sure to push some buttons right around election time. All I can say is more power to P for having the balls to make a video like this w/a powerful message.

Even if Viacom does decide not to show the video, it doesn't mean it's "banned in the US". There are other video channels in the states that could air it (Fuse, mun2). That's how I saw Madonna's uncensored "American Life".

Fuse/MuchMusicAmerica pretty much follows MTV lead. So, it will be interesting if they decide to deviate from MTV Networks decision.

I haven't. Prince isn't exactly the type of artist that Fuse's demographic is interested in. But they are always slamming MTV and it would be a great opportunity to differentiate themselves from MTV by showing the video.

They slam MTV but they are no different. As matter of fact, they are owned by the same people who own MuchMusic in Canada. The Canadian MuchMusic pretty much shows everything MTV does in the US including videos and TV show. So pretty much, Fuse is the same old voice with a different name.

WAKE UP MORONS.

MTV and MTV News NEVER EVER reported ANY SUCH THING. Go to mtvnews.com and search Prince -- you'll find all their recent stories & headlines and not a peep re: "Cinnamon Girl".

Basically, this is our point. You won't hear a peep from MTV about the Cinnamon Girl video b/c it is too damn controversial and around Presidential Election Time in the US.

Not really. I have yet to see reality shows, animation, or any other non-music programming that flood the Viacom stations.

Is there a difference between a particular company banning a video/song from being played and the web site of a particular recording artist restricting/forbiding/removing views expressed by his paying customers that contain words/themes conflicting to his own beliefs. There is an agenda everywhere. Which one is right depends on where you are standing.

Even if it true about the video being banned, MTV needs to grow a pair of balls. One one hand, they show a bunch of "thugged out" videos that are demeaning and degrading of both the artist that is "singing", and the women in the videos (look Ma, I'm a video ho'!) booty!

Then on the other hand, they won't play videos like "Cinnamon Girl" because they deem them too controversial. They keep on promoting ignorance. Why don't they try to educate their viewers for once instead of creating a bunch of voyueristic reality shows, materialistic "look what this celebrity has" shows, and idiotic game shows. What they hell happened to the music? It is "Music Television" after all. mad

HAAAAA MTV HOLLAND!?!?! I thought you were referring to the ACTUAL legitimate fact-checking MTV News here in the states. Like most "News" from the British tabloids, over the years, I've noticed much of what's "reported" on MTV outside the U.S. (that's not generated by MTV NEWS in the U.S.) is likely a bunch of HORSESH*T.

Has "Cinnamon Girl" even been submitted to MTV in the U.S. yet? And if it has, maybe they just don't wanna play it because their audience just isn't into Prince? They played "Musicology" and no one really cared...
