If that's true it could be a good thing....

It could create an interest in the video and the song that might not have been there otherwise.

yep, just heard this myself.

it's too bad--i kinda liked this video, and song btw. just like the "musicology" vid, it had some
class too it. it's still a prince video and they've never amazed me thus far. prince's latest vids
have been decent at least.

mtv america should show a little backbone every now and then. they're so soft over there.
everything relating only a little to 9/11 gets banned or censored. the best cure probably is
to "confront" instead of forget (i'm not trying to disrespect).
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain

This is insulting. The powers that be can not censor what art we consume. This is a free land, a democracy ... supposedly.

Apparently, they can.

Isn't Green Day number one with 'American Idiot'?! I'm surprised the government didn't force them to change it to 'America is great and everything is fine' just in case someone somewhere was offended that some Americans might be seen as 'idiots'.

Typically in the UK, if you ban a song, it goes to number one on the notoriety alone. Not sure if that would be true if only the video was banned...

unfortunately, this wasn't a government action. there's no imposition of freedom of speech going on here. mtv is a business and has the right to decide what they play and what they don't play. i do think this is so ridiculous, though...what a sad state of affairs. just another way to exemplify how corporations run america.

If this is true....this may be EXACTLY what Sony/Prince were going for here in the US.

Not to say I told you so...but.... wink my post from the main Cinnamon Girl thread.....

>>>>Seriously folks, if this video gets press/airplay this could really stir the pot and ruffle some feathers here in the states. The man is pushing the envelope once again...isn't it great!

I noticed on an earlier post that the video will be available on the CD single ...

Could this be the ultimate plan? Release this hard hitting video to the US video outlets , VH1, MTV..it gets some airplay then gets "banned" from the stations due to its controversial, ... nature. Creates a huge media buzz. Thus the video being available on the single , sells hundreds of thosands of the single and gets a #1 record.

Much like Madonna did with Justify My Love video , although banned for totally different reasons. The song became the talk of the music world and broke all sorts of records for video VHS sales .<<<<

Its so funny how MTV would rather show someone degrading themselves trying to be a thug and looking foolish..or women objectifying themselves over showing the Cinammon Girl video....that says a lot about society

For clarity:

My "powers that be" reference didn't refer to government action. The sense of freedom to consume and choose is just part of my every day sense of American entitlement. I didn't know whether to blame station owners or programmers for affecting that , so I left it nebulous ... simply saying "powers that be" ... i.e. whoever's responsible.

And "free speech" wasn't mentioned either. Again, Americans live daily with a sense that we can decide for ourselves what we wish to be exposed to.... censorship is an insult to that...

but I know you were just explaining yourself Sassy. So thanks smile

Blame MTV, not America. FarenHYPE 911 was allowed to show throughout the land. After the super bowl fiasco, mtv is scared to take a crap without repercussions.

i'm sorry, i was kind of unclear...still waking up and all, lol. i knew what you meant. i was just saying that it is important for companies to have the final say as to what they endorse, support, whatever. i don't agree with mtv's decision, if they did ban the video, but they have the right to do what they want. i was just kind of riding off of the "free land...democracy" part of your comment.

either way, though, mtv is screwed up.

Farenheit 911 was originally dropped by Disney I believe who weirdly put the money up for it - it was only after Moore creating a stink about that decision and won at Cannes (?) that they finally relented.

I'd say, let's create a stink about the video, but actually I think the mystique of banning the video will only help the single.

The only fiasco about the Super Bowl incident is that Americans made such a fuss about it! We have women with both breasts showing in our newspapers everyday over here in Europe - doesn't mean we are any less moral.

i dont see how in anyway this is offensive -- i thought it was a great video, beautiful art mixed with a strong message of how human nature works...

they should play it..hell they better play it -- i dont think they wanna mess with prince on that matter...he made the vid for it to be seen....

If a cd single for Cinnamon Girl is released(with an emphasis on the video) here it will at least vault this single into the top 20. It sure as hell wont happen because of airplay.

Why?

Apparently because the video depicts a middle eastern girl "dreaming" about blowing up something as retaliation ("terrorism"...)
MTV isn't banning the video since they'll show it starting next week, so the blame is not to be put on MTV as many idiots will do...
