Absolutely true. It's an interesting debate: when exactly does something cease to be simply inaccurate and become accepted as a way of saying something, even if grammatically it's wrong? I'm not sure. But i will say this: if my children were being taught "could care less" as being acceptable at school, i'd think the relevant English teacher needed to go back to his books for a while. And what we have now are two sets of people around the globe using what was originally one phrase in two polar-opposite ways to say the same thing. One of which makes sense grammatically and one of which does not. Because this isn't just a slight variation of the phrase; removing the negative actually leads the speaker / writer to be saying something which grammatically means precisely the opposite of what he/she is trying to convey! An identical example would be the phrase, "I don't doubt it" in the context of belief. Removing the, "not" (as with, "couldn't care less" becoming "could care less") leads to the preposterous, "I do doubt it". I find, "could care less" to be equally erroneous.

Basically it comes down to 2 things: 1. Prince doesn't owe you ANYTHING if you buy his product (his art) then you are doing so of your own free will. 2. Some people are WAY too involved being Prince fans. I mean if something that Prince does really causes you deep pain and/or annoyance-you should check your involvment level with how much time and attention you are spending on Prince etc. [Edited 10/7/04 16:32pm] Exactly! Some people need to get a little objectivity. I've avoided really commenting on the whole 'Housequake.com' incident, but I think the whole thing was blown out of all proportion. If people are gonna whine about Prince trying to 'shut down the fans sites' etc. they need get a reality check and ask themselves 'why' Prince felt the need to do what he did. Personally I can completely see his point of view on this matter, and I was actually surprised it hadn't happened sooner. ----- Agreeded. No sane person would be okay with bootlegging.

True, however, when I do give in to temptation to correct such an "error" it's not out of some anal need to correct that which is obviously wrong. When it comes to my friends, I could care less how they come across to others when they speak.

It's really not important that you don't always mind your grammatical p's and q's, but at least know the freakin difference.
