Why does Prince change his bands?

I have always wondered why Prince changes his band? Is it because there is friction like with W&L and so things become tense and he walks away rather than try to work it out... does he feel threatened by someone stealing his thunder? Or is it like someone has alluded about Kirk, Prince realizes that he has reached the end of the road with regards of his band's talent and he is looking for a fresh direction and thinks a new band will be a fresh start.

But don't you think there are talented musicians that can change with him? Or is Prince the only one versatile and talented enough to change his style?
I am partial to the band he has now. This group of musicians are at the top of their games with their perspective instruments. I believe that each one of them could easily move thru different genres of music.

Yes i see your point but i think he wants to change musicians every time he wants to change the direction of his work and as a consequence it changes the sound.
I dont see Ronda as a brilliant bass player ,all that slaping i just dont like it,and even when you have a telented musician capable of changing his style it takes some time to change the way he souds,to change your aprouch on the instrument isnt a simple matter of wanting,it needs study.Do you realy think that if he decide to go as rock as he can on his next album this is the beast band to do it,i am not saying that they cant play rock, they sure can but if you take a musician that plays rock as a his maine style such as Slash, you gonna have a fucking rock sound,a genuine one!Same goes to all the others instruments!
This is a very good band, they can sure move thru different genres of music, but they sound good at this Jazzy/funk that he is playing, but if he decide to play bossa nova he should get others musicians(he can stay with Renato on this one).

All this Prince ego-stroking some fans do claiming that Prince is always outgrowing his band members is ridiculous. EVERY musician grows. Cats like Levi came into the band more proficient than Prince himself. He squeezes what he can out of them and when he thinks he's got what he can out of them or when they start to ask for more money, he hires new blood. Whenever he wants to change his sound, he hires new blood. Why? Aren't mos of the musician he hires capable of change? Of course they are. Most musicians can switch styles, especially when being paid to do so. There's a long list of complains about Prince & money from ex band members.

I think he just likes to play with different people. Maybe he's just curious to see how different things will sound with different musicians with different interpretations. I don't think for a minute that he's a user when it comes to band members. The man can do everything himself. I just think he bores easily, and changing band members is a way of keeping things fresh. At this point, anyone who signs on to work in his band should expect walking papers, whether it happens in a month or a year.

Exactly.....when they get tired of the egotripping they leave. Morris Day said he was only paid like $500 dollars a week at one point and the Time was on top of the world. Prince was making millions.

The man can do everything himself.
except do live shows... unless he gets one of those devices where there is a drum, organ etc. all rolled into one.

c'mon we all know he recycles musicians every couple of years.
he changes because obviously he likes to work with different people. He probably loses interest really quick, need some spice and dice once in a while.
Next to james brown, i can't remember any other musician who changes band members like P does.....but hey i look at it as a good thing.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think the musicians P hires know upfront that they will not be with him permanently. I agree with MDD. If P decides to do a rock album, i can't see the band he has now playing rock as well as, say, The Revoution; and i can't see The Revolution playing the jazz stuff from The Rainbow Children
