Same quotes in every interview (Envelopes being pushed, Musicians not computers, noting Larry Graham as his mentor and main influence etc) Even his setlists are now repetitive.

No wonder he hardly opened his mouth in the 80's, at least he was a bit of an enigma back then. He was mysterious. Pity he can't shut up nowadays, he's suddenly become an instant cure for insomnia!

I've met him and couldn't disagree with you more. He is a very intuitive positive person. he is very cordial and enjoys a good time from what I can see. His interviews are interesting because you can see that he is trying to give his best answer possible so he is "thinking on his feet" so to say.

Prince likes to get deep which is cool if you don't mind going for a swim.

If you read every interview in a year from any celebrity (whether they are promoting a movie, album, etc.) you'll see a pattern in the answers that they give. I have been reading several interviews with George Lucas this year, and he gives the same answers because he is asked the same questions over and over.

This isnt anything new hes being doing the same for at least 14 years... ie same interviews, same set lists etc.

I like it just the way he's doing it. He's opening up, but at the same time he's still not letting nobody get all up in his business. When he's open it's all about the music, but as far as the man and his life, he is still very much the mystery just like he was back then.

When he was on Arsenio (the first time in 91) I hated that he had Patti Labelle talking for him. He should've been talking for himself. He was the one trying to promote his album coming out and if I was Arsenio he wouldn't have been on my show. Don't use me to promote your stuff and you can't even talk to me. He didn't even have to let nobody know his business. He could've done the same thing he's doing now, it's all about the music but at the time he had his ass up on his shoulders.

Maybe if the reporters stopped asking him the same questions all the time!

Needing all questions or topics ahead of time ... That's fake. What's he so afraid of? Just be open and sincere.... man that would be fun to watch if he could really pull it off with wit and ease.

I was going to say the same thing. I was getting sick of reporters asking the same things over and over. That's why his answers started sounding the same.

How could a reporter conduct a really fresh, unique and interesting interview with Prince that might (hopefully) elicit new responses or information when they are soooo constricted in terms of what they are allowed to ask him or speak to him about? It would be impossible. There is only a very narrow window of subject matter that is 'safe' to bring up or ask Prince about.

A reporter would be risking angering Prince or him walking out if they strayed from the standard, permissable questions/subjet matter.

Having never gone to college, it shows up now in interviews with him the way he pauses to come up with a reasonably intellegent answer to when a interviewer questions him. The most recent Tavis Smiley interview was good, but it's as if Tavis really held off on giving him really tough questions. From what I can see, just about every reporter who gets to interview a celeberity, whether it's the press junket or that faux " Exclusive " coup reserved for the likes of Barbara Walters and Oprah, kiss the ass of said personality, Prince included. They're either afraid to ask really deep questions for fear of losing the opportunity to speak to them, or an unlikely scenario, they don't want to make that celeberity look stupid. I don't know if it's true in Prince's case, but their publicists and handlers set them up with cupcake interviews, cause it's easier to fool the crowd when " enter celeberity name here " looks like their smarter than they are.



p.s... I didn't go to college either, so don't jump on my case about it.

Maybe you need to look around on this board at some of his interviews. He has been on point in quite a few lately. I think the most recent ones are some of his best. Getting an education is great but it does not always make people the best speakers. Don't let the lack of P's education make you think that is the reason he is poor at interviews. He has admitted that he does not like doing them.

Mark…I do sorta feel you in some ways. He really didn’t change it up that much. But I do have to say that I have seen and heard Prince more times this year than any other…and THAT’s exciting. You have to realize that for the true fan…we’re gonna hear the message over and over again. But for the casual…they may hear him once.

I was hoping for a little mixup during the concerts. I certainly think that more of Musicology could have been played or other hits could have been brought out…easily. Even the acoustic set could have been changed around a little bit…again very easily. I do know that being in the round has it’s limitations…but also it’s flexibility. He said that they can be loose and funky and jam…and they did, but the set list really was not too loose. But he made up for it in energy…that’s for certain!

I also noticed that most of the reviews of the concerts were the same too.
