Don't get me wrong, I still bump Something In The Water and a few others, but it's not an album that I listen to much, 'cause I'd rather play something I've never heard before. DMSR is the funkiest ass joint prince has ever done! (in my opinion anyway)

1999 is incredible ..something in the water does not compute...automatic..lady cab driver ..all the critics ..i love 1999 its one of his best albums most of the songs are over 7 minutes long ..i have bought 3 versions over the years album /tape/cd still have all then in perfect condition

You definitely need more than one day to fully "get" any album.

1999 is not imho his best album but it is in my top 10.lets pretend were married is one of my all time fave prince songs and DMSR is funking amazing

That's the great thing about Prince ... listen to it a few more times and it will start to grow on u like a beautiful fungus. You're pretty young, right? When I was a teenager and discovering "older" Prince records for the first time, I had a similar reaction ... specifically with Dirty Mind, 1999 and Lovesexy. I mean, I liked them, but I didn't LOVE them the way I then loved Grafitti Bridge and Diamonds and Pearls and Purple Rain. And I used to think the songs on 1999 were WAY TOO LONG! (I know ... I was young and dumb. ) But now Lovesexy and 1999 are 2 of my ALL TIME favorites. They're both sheer genius. Trust me. It will happen.

2 this day I can still listen to Lovesexy and 1999 (and most of his other work) and hear new things that I've never heard before. And I know these songs better than the back of my hand! 2 me, that's truly incredible. Gives u an idea of how complex his music is.

1999 has not dated well, so don't feel bad!

It was hard to get into when it came out, so it must be terrible now.

The synth really dates alot of that period. Songs like Let Pretend sound very dated, where tracks that stayed off the synth overload (Free, Irrisestable Bitch) sound far better.
