My 1st post -- and a question...

I have always liked Prince, but for some reason I have been REALLY into his music lately. I'm about to go on an album-buying spree, but before I do I was hoping that someone here would be willing to recommend some of the better discs I should try to get. I figure this is the place for knowledgeable opinions about Prince albums and I'm looking to buy about six more.

This is what I have so far:

The Hits / The B-Sides
Purple Rain
Sign "O" the Times
Symbol (or whatever you call it)
Emancipation
Crystal Ball (with The Truth)
Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic
Musicology

So, my question is what should I get next? If you had to add about six albums to that list, which ones would they be?

Thanks in advance.

Sup. I asked the same question a while back when I joined the Org, and just want to say, "WELCOME" first and foremost. A lot of the people who reccomended albums I purchased, and I must say, these people know what they're talking about.

Personally, I really dig these albums (in no particular order):

1999 - A bit on the long side, but this is in the top 3 for many people. It's good.
LoveSexy - This is a must, but the 1-track ID might piss you off.
Dirty Mind - Prince's first sexually provocative album. It's really good.
Parade/Under The Cherry Moon - A little experimental, but it's definitely in my top 5. Plus, it has "Kiss" and "Mountains".
Around The World In A Day - This is really, really experimental, but compare it to The Beatles' White Album.
The Rainbow Children - You might not want to get this off-the-bat. It's more intuitive for the more Princey, if you know what I mean.

Watch out for the 1999 cd

I haven't listened to mine in a looooong time and broke it out today. Turns out DMSR was removed to make it a single cd.

That sucks beyond all reason.

And WELCOME TO THE ORG. rose

Oh yeah! I'm listening to it while I'm doing dishes and though... "Isn't DMSR suppose to be in here somewhere?" I go look on my Warner Bros. issued cd and it says...

"To enable the release of 1999 as a single Compact Digital Disc, the song "D.M.S.R." has been omitted from the original LP edition."

Ain't that a bitch??

Damn... that does suck. But didn't you look on the back cover to find out if all of the tracks were there. And this is strange. Why would they remove DMSR? I bought my copy of 1999 like a month ago and DMSR is on there...

When CD's first came out they could only hold so much...so off went DMSR. It's been added back on to the newer ones...now that they hold more info.

I don't remember how/when I got my copy. Might have even been at a pawn shop. I didn't read the fine print on the back. I'll have to get a newer cd cause DMSR...gotta have that.

Thank you everybody for your recommendations. I just ordered a few from Amazon.com and this is what I decided on (with your helpful input)

Dirty Mind
1999
Around the World in a Day
Parade
Lovesexy
The Gold Experience

That should keep me satisfied for a while. I decided not to get Rainbow Children because from what I have read it seems very Jesus-centric, and I could do without that. Anyway, thanks again!

Hi ChaosMage! Start at the beginning and follow thru in context of his career is always a good way 2 go - that way u get some real perspective on his growth as an artist as apposed 2 hopping around eras etc. Enjoy!
