SLOW version: Something In The Water is there a demo version (or decent live version) of "Something In The Water" done slow? I know I heard it somewhere and I can't remember now, and I don't seem to have it.
Um, because I don't OWN any bootlegs. They are bad. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Sounds like you're describing the '84 tour rehearsals version. He really slowed the song down in that one. I don't know if he ever performed it the way they rehearsed it, but that's the only "slow version" I've ever heard. Lovesexy Funkateer

I have, somewhere, an alternate studio version of this song. It's fantastic. It's not exactly slowed down, well, I suppose the drum track is. It features keyboards prominently, and the vocals are different. No screams, though.

Is this what you're talking about, maybe? I think it is. I don't believe it was a live recording, but, shoot, who knows. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Cool track! the album version, the alternate version and the '84 rehearsal version are all fantastic. I'm gonna stick my neck out here people, Prince screams are far better than James browns screams, so nergh! You do as I say

Ok - expert help required!
Is the 'demo'/alternate version of 'Something...' an actual demo or is it a re-recorded version? If so, when was it recorded? I'm sure I read somewhere that it's a re-recorded version from 1984? Or am I confusing this with the live 'slower' version?? (Which I've never heard). Boris???!

You may have just answered my question, DavidEye! To be honest, I MUCH prefer this version! As much as I love the original - I dunno - the alternate version just does it for me.

I really don't like the bootleg version better. It's a great song, but it sounds more like a typical prince song.
I liked the original because it was like an minimalist electronic song. Massive attack or portishead before they existed. All the added instruments in the bootleg is too much to me. 2cents [Edited 9/30/04 13:31pm]
