CHAOS and DISORDER

C&D was the last of Prince's efforts for WB. Many people hate it, very few know some of the songs on it, but many of the songs, in my opinion are brilliant songwriting - Dinner with Delores, Same December and Dig U better Dead are passionate and intense songs, showing his musical mastery and diguising his disdain for his record company at the same time - none more so than "Had U". Perhaps what this record lacked was glossy production... But wasnt that the point??

I would like to get detailed analysis on C&D and EXACTLY the reasons you hate it (or love it if you are like me)....

I love this album because it shows a raw, almost angry side 2 Princes music.....
Plus their are "In2 The Light" and "I Will", which are beautiful songs.....
And the whole album just about fits 2gether.....
Shame U cant say that about CB.

.....erm.....isnt this wrong forum again...??

I really like this CD also. I have never been able to tell why so many people dislike it. I really like the guitar on it, and Dinner With Delores is one of my favorite Prince songs.

Too bad he didn't disguise it enough. It was always obvious to this ear that he threw that one together to fulfill his contract. A few nice tracks I like, nothing more. A great way to alienate one's fans. Prince is and has always been better than Chaos & Disorder.

But then he's better than Emancipation too...so...

The first half....from Chaos to Zanalee is incredible. The flow of it is great, and it just rocks hard! I Rock Therefore I Am is a bit of a downer, but there are interesting moments in the song. Into the Light/I Will makes for a great combination. Dig u better dead is a little weak to me, and I always felt the message of the song was a little unlike the typical Prince message- but then again, maybe this isn't really his point of view....I guess I need to listen to the song again....The music on dig u better doesn't really drag me in though, i think it's a little weak. The album closes very strong on Had U.

Overall, I think that it's just another average Prince album, which can only mean that it's a brilliant piece of art.

PLS

being out of the prince loop for the years i was, i didn't get this CD when it was first released.

in fact, i finally only got it this past week and, based on the many negative comments i'd heard about it, i was a bit worried.

and after listening to it, i'm confused by the negativity. i thought the album ROCKED!

there's some songs i like better than others, but overall i liked it very much and the guitar work was incredible.

I think the reason the album disappointed so many people is cuz it has no real flow. Although, reading some of your comments, obviously a lot of you disagree with that.

It all works fine up 2 "Same December" but than the album just falls flat on it's face 4 the duration of

Right The Wrong
Zanalee
I Rock, Therefore I Am

It only gets good again with "into the light".

Had he replaced those 3 trax with some of the Undertaker stuff, like "The Ride", "Poor Goo" and "The Undertaker", the album would've been fantastic.

Its all a matter of opinion, I think The album flows beautifully until Zanalee .. Then it twists and turns musically, which is what makes it interesting. Although, the reason I made this post is 2 find out why people dont like C&D, so thanks..

hIGH wink

When Chaos & Disorder hit the scene, I couldn;t resist listening 2 it b4 I bought it. When I heard I like it there 4 the 1st time i was like wow!!! and what followed amazed me, this was Prince's rock album, his angry goodby 2 Warners. My only let down was Right the wrong, didn't like the feel that song gave me.
Chaos & Disorder was also an album I recommended 2 lots of non fams (I worked in a music store at the time) and most that listened 2 it after i recommended it bought it smile
But I secretly had hoped he put Empty Room on it sad

Ahhh, me 2. When I heard that there was another album on the way which would b a guitar rock kind of thing, I was hoping he'd put that song on it.

But I can also understand that he wouldn't want a gem like that 2 b on a Warners release.

Perhaps he'll release it himself one day.

This album came out on the heels of Emancipation, and it sounded like Prince was using the same formula, albeit with a live band... in ALMOST every song, he started out singing the chorus - or saying the name of the song - it really bugged me.

Okay, honestly, I'm speaking solely of "Dig U Better Dead", and "I Rock, therefore I Am". Those two had potential, but as soon as I heard him singing the title to the song FIRST, ehh, I spose my openness to this wrecka began to dwindle... ESPECIALLY given that Emancipation has DAMN NEAR every song beginning by singing the TITLE to the song. Occasionally, it's great, but, damn, it just seemed like he was in a rut, or just throwing crap together as fast as possible to just get the crap to the label... which, if I'm not mistaken, was his plan, right? They demanded a record, and to spite them, he gave them crap on a platter.

Mind you, it was NICE crap, but it sure as hell wasn't the GOLD experience. -- no, not my favorite, I'm just listing another record from that era to put it in perspective. I feel like P really WORKED on the Gold wrecka... it sounds SO MUCH better overall.

I love this album too BUT Right the Wrong is dire and Zanalee is cheesy. Even tho many said In2 the Light was 'andrew-lloyd webberish' i think its nearly as emotional as dolphin. Not all the reviews were bad. 'Q' gave it 3 stars and the now defunct 'VOX' loved it. I remember the reviewer thought that 'i rock...' was gonna be a summer smash!!

Funny....I've always loved Right the Wrong. I used to crack up at the country twang voice he speaks in at the beginning of the song. Just shows another interesting side of Prince's personality. The lyrics in the song are very good, and musically it's fun as well. Not sure why people don't like this one.

...except for once a couple of yrs ago to see if i'd feel the same way about it.

i did.
