NOTHING COMPARES 2 U ANALYSIS DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT "NOTHING COMPARES 2 U" IS ABOUT?
IS IT ABOUT THE LOSS OF A MOTHER OR A BOYFRIEND WHO HAS BROKEN UP?

According to DMSR (the book) it's about his personal assistant who left his employment in 1984.
I had a very quick flick through, but I couldn't find the reference, but I do remember reading it.

I don't have a clue what it's about, but noticed the similarity in lyrics between Nothing Compares 2 U and Condition of the Heart, both recorded around the same time:
"all the flowers that you planted, mama, in the back yard" "I'm blinded by the daisies in your yard" They could well be about the same person. Hmmm... Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

isn't is just a song about breaking up with someone and then finding it hard to deal with that as 'nothing compares' to that person? Dont think you need to read a book to figure that out

Didnt Prince give the song to Sinead O'connor because her husband had just left her and she was shattered? (or something like that) If this is true i gather the song is about a failed relationship..

Prince never 'gave' her the song at all, Sinead's manager was just listening to The Family's version and thought it would be a great song for her to cover. But I have had rumours that Sinead is singing about her father's death .

It's supposed to be a song Prince wrote for Jerome after his girl broke his heart.
I read that somewhere back in 85.

Not sure if it was about anyone, but man ST.PAUL/THE FAMILY's version is the sh*t!
Sinead's was too sappy! And PRINCE's live version in 1992 is too Vegas lunge act 4 my taste. THE FAMILY version is THE version (aside from whatever PRINCE demo exists from the early 80s)

No really! I'm sure I did read it, that she did a bit of flower planting too, hence the line "All the flowers that you planted mama". I KNOW I read this!!

The reason for my wondering in the first place, is the part saying:
all the flowers that you planted, mama In the back yard All died when you went away What does that mean or indicate then?

It means she forgot to water them before she left.
