Does the Intro and Chorus of "Again" by Lenny Kravitz sound like... Purple Rain!!? Don't know if this has been noticed before, but i recently
heard it on the radio and at first I thought it was a cover version of PR. Or maybe i'm just Official member of the Paw Power Posse

the whole song "Again" sounds like "Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do". Even Prince called him out on it on the old npgltdonline website.

on one of the Celebration Boots he sings WUG,WUD, and then wanders into Again. Stops the song and the crows starts laffing. i guess he was calling his lawyer.

It seems like Prince fans think damn near everything sounds like something Prince did. Even though in Lenny's case its easy to be right about that. Not this time, though. The chorus of "Again" sounds more like the verse vocal arrangements of "Oh No" by the Commodores. And before the young cynics even bother to Google, "Oh No" came out before Purple Rain. Go back and watch "The Last American Virgin".

A little bit similar to Purple Rain, but no where near WUG,WUD; the song structure is a bit different compared to both.

I totally agree. Everybody thinks Prince was the first to do this and the first to do that, and don't get me wrong, I love Prince's music, but he doesn't own any specific sound. Everybody is influenced by someone in everyway nowadays, and Lenny was a fan of Prince (ie: the Romeo Blue days). But I don't think Again sounds like either of these songs. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the chorus to WUG,WUD, lyrically, sound quite similar, or even, jacked from Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting"? Take a look: WUG,WUD Chorus: Wherever u go, whatever u do, please remember that I'll always be there for you. Right Here Waiting Chorus: Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here waiting for you. Sounds the same, huh? And, to my understanding, Marx's song came out way before Prince's. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is don't judge people too hard because everybody copies everybody, in a sense, whether it be fashion-wise, melodically, or lyrically. Peace and be wild edit. But in these case, it´s not just the chords, is the key of the song, and the melody. I think even tought "Wherever you go.." is not one of the most original songs, the fact that the Kravtiz song has a similar tempo, the same chords, the same key and a similar melody make us think that it was a rip off.

Of course it sounds like Purple Rain ! And u know why?? Lenny used the same chords like Purple Rain! The only different is the key change from Bb to A !
But it doesn´t matter, everybody steals ideas from another! It´s ok! Peace and be wild

We shouldn't be too reflexive in saying artists are copying Prince every time something purportedly sounds Princely.
But we also need not be so reactionary like NOBODY copies Prince's stuff and Prince has never done ANYTHING original. That's equally misguided. I can live with this: Lenny did something that sounds like Prince's previous work, some or much (depending who you ask) of which is inspired/derived from other artists. How's that? Speaking of this. Does somebody know why Prince loves so much the Purple Rain chords?
Purple Rain is in a Basic way this: Bb Gm7 F D# But Blue light goes like this: (he only put out the Gm chord) Bb F D# The Morning papers: Bb Gm7 F (this time he kept the Gm and killed the D# chord) Gold is in Bb if memory serves me correct Whatever you go.. is almost the same as purple rain but with half down step. Next time Prince comes up with these chords i will refuse to listen

Exactly. Just because something sounds like something else doesn't mean it's copying.
And to reply to timur, yes, you are right. The chords are almost the same in Again and Purple Rain, however, Purple Rain is played on one guitar; one guitar doing both the chords and the notes in between the chords, whereas with Again, one guitar is doing the Purple Rain chords moved down to the 5th fret solely during the chorus and another guitar is doing background chords and notes. And to BlaqueKnight, I know there will be some Prince Nazi's on my ass about my little comment, but I don't really mind. Just giving everyone my
