I can't believe it should be a comparsion .. They both are great .. s in their own way so it shouldn't matter.

Do some research to find out which one actually sold more, then there's your answer.
Seriously, IMO The Rainbow Children is by far the better album. They shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

What a stupid thread.
The New Power Soul album is a shit stain on the panties of Prince's career. The Rainbow Children, the lyrics aside in some spots, is brilliant musically.

MamaLisa's worst prince album ever: New Power Soul

the rainbow children
new power soul is probably my least listened to in my collection. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Haven't heard either, but if I can make an uneducated guess...I'd say TRC because of the spirituality and all...but I really did like "The One". When people critique NPS, they never seem to mention that song.

That's like asking which is better: having sex or being circumcised. The Rainbow Children is the better album. No competition. Luv & Peace, Alex Clubbin' in Mpls/A Night w. Prince

IMHO
New Power Soul is Prince's worst album ever. The Rainbow Children is a fascinating experiment. No contest.

New power Soul is good, but Rainbow Childrn is a whole different experience. U are comparing ales? Compare Come 2 Chaos....this was a not very good comparison. [Edited 9/21/04 7:30am] Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

IMO- The Rainbow Children is much better than NPS. I don't care for the religious babble or the deep voice, but the music is fantastic - no doubt about that.

I really don't care about weak sales.
I like them both, NPS is extremely funky and has beautiful ballads. TRC is a conceptalbum, he spreads a clear message, and I love the jazz influences on it. And it's more inventively. So I choose The Rainbow Children.

"The Rainbow Children" is FAR better than "New Power Soul". Andy is a four letter word.

"The Rainbow Children" is fantastic. I don't know why people criticize it so much. "New Power Soul" has its moments but as a whole, it's definitely not one of his best.

I would rather endure New Power Soul. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

The best tracks on Newpower Soul are better than the best tracks on The Rainbow Children.
The worst tracks on The Rainbow Children are better than the worst tracks on Newpower Soul. If you're a chin-stroking muso whom adores jazz-funk fusion spagathons, you'll love The Rainbow Children. If you're a fan of his B-Sides material from the 80s, buy Newpower Soul. It's fun, throwaway, funky pop... and criminally under-rated!!!

I would take The One, Wasted Kisses, Come On, and Until Your in my Arms Again over anything on TRC. Its just hip to bash this album. (Insert something clever here)
