Can anyone explain "Starfish and Coffee" ???

I've Always loved this song never knew what it was about. guess it doesn't matter but still would like 2 know.

Well, the original title for the song was "Short-Bus Chick", so take it from there.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

People often say that the song is about a retarded girl or whatnot but it's a bit deeper than that. The overall point that Prince was trying to convey with this song is acceptance of things and people and ideas that are different from your own and out of the ordinary. In the song Cynthia was some what of an eccentric girl who dressed differently and what not. She even claimed to eat starfish and coffee, mable syrup and jam...yall know the rest. Anyway, Prince opens up her lunch box one day and sees that Cynthia had in it exactly what she claimed to have. Starfish and coffee and stuff. Basically the point of the song is that we should be open minded to new ideas and things that aren't common to us...note the lyric "If you set your mind free baby, maybe you'll understand" That's my take on the song.
