Which instrument I was watching a video.. -- I dunno know where or how I got to see this video-- (in case some1 is watching )
but I was wondering which instrument is prince most skilled with. I always thought the guitar but I am looking at this video, and he really is very good on the piano also. Not often you see a musician THAT good on more than one instrument. Just want HONEST opinions (not biased) on what other instruments that Prince is really good at. I have seen/heard his percussion skills, and they are average... but his piano and guitar are in the top 20 if not top 10. thanks! "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

it's definitely guitar or piano... but i think i'll go with guitar since he seems to use varying skills and techniques with it, not to mention the different uses of effects and recording techniques
edit: oh, and i mean lead electric guitar (he also plays bass, rhythm, acoustic, etc) [Edited 9/30/04 1:19am]

He's certainly very good at both...
I'd like to hear him profile drums and bass more, though. There's really not much of either to gauge his abilities with these, at least nothing that really stands out. I believe he did the drums on Madhouse 8, and the single 6 and a half, some of which is really quite good, and he's certainly played some extremely catchy bass lines, though not necessarily difficult. I would just like to see him stretch these two instruments as much as he can, just so I could make a better assessment about his abilities in these two categories. With guitar vs keys, I'm going to have to go with guitar, but I must say, regardless of his skill, I really like his SOUND on both, about equally. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. I simply think he's an amazing all-round musician. But on the other hand I would agree that if there was any particular instrument that he stood out with, it would of course be guitar.

He is at his best at a drum machine.

what does prince do best? make u guess. being a multi-instrumentalist mysef, i strive for perfection on anything i pick up. doesn't always work, but that's what i look for. personally, i love the way he plays bass, especially on alphabet st. u really have 2 listen, but it is funkier than shaved ape sh*t. more of a solo than a lead line, it is truly inspired

Listen closely to The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, 777-9311, Crystal Ball, Lady Cab Driver, Little Red Corvette, What's My Name, Play In The Sunshine, If I Was Your Girlfriend, I Wonder U, What Do U Want Me 2 Do, the entire Rainbow Children album, on and on and on. The aforementioned songs display his amazing ability on bass and they also show his versatility. BTW, I think Prince is a better drummer than most people realize. Miles Davis once remarked that Prince is a hell of a drummer. That is high praise coming from an all time legendary JAZZ musician.
