New Power Soul (the song) appreciaton (and a question for you hardcore geeks!) Is there an original version of this song available elsewhere? Am I right that this track surfaced a long time before the albums release in 98?
For the record, props to such a great track! Let me hear some love...

For the record, props to such a great track! Let me hear some love... New Power Soul appeared on "Exodus" in an entire different version. New Power Soul on NPS i feel is much better. New Power Soul LP is cool 2 me (except for Freaks.., Push... and Shoo Be Dooh). Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

The song on the Exodus album is almost an instrumental, that is New Power Soul.
The song on the NPS album is actually Newpower Soul. Small difference but important, as they are completely different tracks. The track on the Exodus album is a jazzy number, okay but really just filler, almost like a segue. I think there is a slightly longer version as a bootleg from an earlier configuration. I like the NPS title track. I like how it lists the songs of the album similar to Push on Diamonds and Pearls. Funky and weird. I don't think there is an alternative version to this one.

It is true that the song on Exodus has the same name but is an entirely different song. The chorus "Get freaky, let your head bob, get freaky, let your head bob" can also be found in another song off of Exodus called "Big Fun". A darker funk track than New Power Soul on NPS. If you don't have it, Exodus is a P-classic.

I've heard of Exodus before but I'm not sure what it is or when it was made.
Is it Prince solo or is it an album he's written for a protegee? Was it officially released? Is it worth getting?

It was officially released in parts of Europe. It is very good. Lots of swearing though.
