Prince IS a genius I have only been a Prince fan for about a year, but already i own most of his albums, and something i've come to understand is that Prince really is like no other artist, because all of his songs are very individual and each has a seperate story to tell. This may not sound like anything new to someone else, but I realised that all the other artisits i listen to have at least reproduced something similar in two or more songs, but with Prince I have never noticed that. With such a vast collection of songs and a career spanning 25 years it's amazing that he's managed to create something new and exciting on every song.
One year ago I couldn't stand the man because I wasn't open minded and couldn't look beyond his past image. Now I think he is a genius. | |

Thanx, it's not just one of his past images, I just remember hating the man, if anyone asked me anything about him I didn't know anything 'cus I didn't give him a chance. I just had a view in my mind that he was an arrogant, self-obsessed womaniser. But then when I heard that he's changed, I gave him a chance. And how glad I was. Plus when I was younger I was an MJ fan so I was very biased, I thought everything Prince did was an imitation of MJ. | |

Hmm. Interesting that you gave his music a chance when you heard that his behavior had supposedly changed. I wonder how you'll feel about a lot of his past work. But have fun - in my opinion, you have an entire amazing universe to explore in his body of work, and it's one hell of a ride. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Don't be fazed by the hazing you'll get here (and you will get it ) - keep visiting and let us know how your Prince-journey is going. without a doubt prince is and always would be a genius.his musical style ,theatrics,guitar playing and anthics is out of this world.nothing compares to this maverick of our time.i see nothing wrong in any of the images prince has potrayed to the world.every image of this musical idol all adds up to his mystique and his everlasying allure.prince sure rules! | |

well....good 4 u!!!!! EXTREMELY good!!! his music is like nothing else.....in the 1st period,when i started 2 listen 2 his albums,there was nothing else 4 me 2 listen 2.....the first 4-5 years were "ONLY PRINCE" years.....consider that i was about 11 when it all began...(now i'm 22)...  .....then i opened my mind 2 other stuff too....but HE's still #1 in my heart!!!!!.... .....IMHO,I think that if it wasn't 4 him i would not be so open minded about music!!!  there's always a  at the end of every rain! | |

My Prince experience started very similar to yours, however I was around 17/18 when I got into him (seeing him in 1997 on the JOTY Tour sealed the deal). I'm 26 now and I cannot get enough of his genius. Prince opened my eyes to a wide array of musical genres, styles, ideas and moods. Moreover, he spoke to my beliefs about women, the rejection of hyper-masculinity and self definition. Prince's music has been my gateway to the appreciation of greats like Sly, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Miles, Coltrane, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin etc. Prince's diverse musical output greatly increased my appreciation for all forms of music and it caused me to seek out his influences.  | |
